I used it as a daily driver when I purchased it in 1985, while mud racing it I rolled it. It then became my budget racer. Manifolds were inverted with both exhausting out the right side of the hood, air intake routed into the interior which had been gutted and a roll bar installed.
This is the last photo while alive.I was overly aggressive (translation: STUPID) when jumping up out of a dry pond. It was approx 12ft in the air. FJ55s don't like landings. RF & LR tires blew, RF spring and front output on trans case broke, front driveshaft went thru the oil pan. The seat buckled the floor, the roll bar bent the roof. However the photo did make it into Four Wheeler Mag Ugly Truck Contest.
The 55 was then used as a flagpole base for several years at our mud race track. Muddy Run Raceway

Thanks Eric. What happened to the list pvcruiser mentioned for sourceing parts? Do ya'll just post requests on the classfieds section or appropriate forum? Also, does anyone have advice on painting spoker wheels? I'm cleaning the rust off today and think I'll just hit them with some rattle can rustoleum white to cover them up. I guess it'll be like new toenail polish on my piggy, but she ain't getting any lipstick (pics to come in my next post!)

That's the model, not the VIN...since you have the earliest, side-mounted front marker lights, Pighead would guess your VIN is 1200 or earlier...

Any Modifications: Originally there was an electric winch installed, but the previous owner had to sell it beacose of the insecurity matters in this rotten country =) (they tried to rob him several times just for the winch, not the car). Other than that the pig is going to be restored.

H1N1 (Swine Flu)
Just acquired 3 pigs from customers in exchange for parts. From left to right, Green/White 1978, White 1976 and White/Brown 1970. 1978 has 34,077 miles (may be original. it's been parked for 20 years), 1970 shows 70,629 (also been parked for 20 years). I'll be keeping & restoring the 78. The others are a bit too rusted to restore, so will be using for parts and selling the rest.

Nice score Tim! You're seriously inflicted with the disease now. Quite sad... but you've come to the right place for help.
Can't wait to see the progress of your pig build- keep us informed!
Cheers, Carlos.

Hello,,,,,,,,,does anyone know if Toyota put in an 2F block in the 1974 fj55? Someone told me the oiler was changed in 74 almost seemed like a half 2f and other half F engine. I am thinking of buying a 1974 FJ55 BUT would like to know if this info is really true. I do not like the older f oiler problems. Thanks fjfjfj

I bought this unit with a the original drive train in it and barely managed to get it home. John Deere is now in the process of getting a 350TBI and a 700R4 from a 1991 Chev Pickup.

Update as of 10/22/09: I have nearly completed the conversion for this pig as of last night. Just one or two wiring gremlins and she is ready to go.
John Deere just got a Chevy 350 and a 700R4. Not too fancy but it should be one **** of a hunting/fishing rig. I did, however, install a Lokar auto shifter in which is ****.
