Door Latches

Well as most pig doors do my hinges sagged. And I didnt rebuild them and now my latch's are shot to hell. I dont dare open my drivers door as I'm afraid it wont close again. So here's my question. Do you guys have any suggestions on new latching mechanisms to put in the doors of my '76? I have no issues cutting/welding something in. Just looking for a good product.

Saggin Doors

Im right with ya usmcruiser. Two of the doors on my 71 do a bit of saggin. Justweldit and myself will hopefully knock this out by welding some support plates between the hinges and door jam-he's the expert so who knows how it will actually go down. Doesn't help that there is a 10inch lift on my pig so the doors are always being pulled on as it is. Might have to think about installing handles/grips to ease up on the doors a little bit.

Do you want to reuse the stock handles? If so, you can do it just like on Buck's LV or you can find some other type of handle like I did. I used some flush handles from a 90's Honda Civic & Bearclaw latches. You'll have to add the keyed lock mech for the driver door. I didn't use that or the push pull lock option cuz mine are tube type doors. I was able to reuse/ modify all the stock levers & hdwe:

Wow, is there more detail on how you did the inset of the handles?

I think Ige has a post saying she used pins from a 40 to rebuild her hinges...

How did the pilot bearing install go?

Yeah I saw Ige's thread on that a bit ago. I was planning on doing the same thing. Gotta get rid of that sag some how.

With Ige's help it went pretty good. Didn't need a bearing puller as the outter race of the old bearing was broken in half, and the balls were just free in that pocket. The inner race was fused to the input shaft of the tranny. But getting the clutch out want as hard as I had thought. So that was pretty sweet. She's all buttoned up and back together now. Had to spend more money than expected on the stupid shifter boot in the cab. lol The dust cover for the transmission was only like $9 while the boot cover was like $45 for molded rubber. lol damn OEM.

Heh heh, you said your balls were free in your pocket! Confucious say, "Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day"

Post up what you do on your hinges
