Finally, a pig in the driveway

Hi all. Newbie here and glad to finally have a FJ55 in the driveway. She's a 76' FJ55, pretty much stock. The previous owners haven't done much other than try to fix some of the typical rust spots and add wheels/tires/rack. Luckily she's a CA car so very minimal rust.

I have a whole list of mods or fixes I'd like to do, definitely with alot of help from the "stickies" in the tech forum here, but I'd like to keep her fairly stock w/o going too wild.
-First on the block is a Weber 38 carb to get her starting reliably with a little more kick.
-next maybe headers and exhaust
-I'd like to keep the tranny/drivetrain and F2 but tuned up
-hopefully power steering down the road
-don't want to mess w/ the suspension till I figure out how I want to drive her

That's a start for now. Glad to join the group and the forum and look forward to alot of Iron Pig trials and tribulations!

Old pics of the ride.. more to follow when I get them up!

Nice looking start for a piggy.

On the weber, you might really consider a Jim C. rebuilt stock one. I've heard nothing but good about them all around. I've heard of several complaints about the weber Do a search on the "main" FJ40 forum to find those complaints.

I'd worry about the final drivetrain decision until you get 100% sure on how you are going to use it. Any type of "rock crawling" kind of beg for gearing(granny tranny, doubler, or whatever your choice is)

Welcome to the pig farm
You have come to the right place for good advice and help.

Pablo is right. Get your stock carb rebuilt by Chenowith(sic). Did mine about 10 yrs ago. Never had a bit of trouble with it.

Next to a carb rebuild, put in a Pertronix setup. Never, ever, change points again.

Congrats and welcome. Nice find. Stick with the Aisin carb and have Jim C or Mark A rebuild it - you won't be sorry

Welcome to the sty! Great lookin' pig.

... and to further add to the debate. My trail pig has a Weber carb and my Princess pig runs a hybrid Jim C. carb. Both have worked real well for me, dig them both. Does that help?
