Rear quarter / rear lower pillar replacement
My rear quarters and lower rear pillar (this is what my old manual calls the the body section below the tailgate) didn't look too rotten at first, but they fail the screwdriver test.
I'd like to rebuild this section to be more rust proof, and not too complicated to assemble. I plan on frame mounted protection, so the body sheetmetal does not have to be too unreasonably strong. I do want the rear quarters chopped even with the lower rear pillar. I've got some ideas involving rectangular tubing, but they are probably overkill.
Who has attempted this? Are you happy with the result?

I'd like to get Paul in Costa Rica to make up rear quarters for the '55. Shall I ask him when I see him next (probably in September or October)?

I may be interested, though because of the chop mine wouldn't be the original shape. I need to mark up a picture of what I have in mind.

Can you trim all that low hanging, rusty rear section off? Back before I whacked my rear sides, I was able to trim just below where the tailgate torsion bar resides & level it all out. Just wrap the bumper around on the outside. On the inside underbody, I was going to use some perforated metal to join the outer panel & inner so I can clean everything out & no dirt or rust can get trapped. If you decide solid panels there, I'd make the panels removeable. I know this is a lot of work but it'll be worth it when your tail doesn't drag all over the trail

Remember, this will require a commitment of folks to purchase these parts. Paul doesn't make parts for his own enjoyment.
