convince me I need this pig
Was at the wreckers yesterday when I came across this gem. They only got it in the day before.
I drove the car a few years ago when it was for sale by the previous owner. He at the time wanted $1800 for it
Drove well, the transfer case it odd, its missing the selecter lever, he at the time told me the transfer was out of a isuzu or something????
Has a generous amount of rust in rear quaters, roof, and sills. looks to be cracked and rewelded where the A piillar meets the
roof, Rear door rattled like crazy from memory.
It ran first turn of the key. it ran rough, but id say petrol is old or something.
has factory AC long range tanks, dual batteries.
he wants $800 for it. Money is a bit tight ATM, but its fate is inevidible if it stays where it is. dont like the barn doors though.
Please convince me.......

The A/C is worth 400-500 alone.
Edit: Wait it's on the wrong side lol. Don't know the value of that in AU.

Road Trip?
landcruiser - eBay, Passenger Vehicles, Cars, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 05-Jul-09 22:27:08 AEST)
PS, AC, Disk Brakes..............
I looked into freighting it to Tas, but it was going to cost more than the vehicle. If it came with those 35z I'd buy it no doubt.

yeah is pretty good deal, its got the usual rot. but the air cond, power steer, and disc brakes were hard to pass up, and suspension alone is worth twice the price, not to mention the pajero suspension seats and UHF circa 1970 to boot :P hehe
John 'jtsaltlick' and john from profits cruisers 'greasecruiser' actually contacted me, they wanted to buy it and ship it to the states, so they asked if i would go look at it for them. so i did which resulted in me taking a ticket number 3 in the line of possible owners. then 'jsaltlick' passed on it but john 'greasecruiser' decided he was still partly interested. Now i'm not sure if im letting the cat out of the bag here or if he wanted to keep it hush hush, but he wants the ambo doors, so i will be cutting the back off either this one or my current one and shipping some ambo doors to the states if he still wants them, other wise i will have 2 pigs in my yard
always wanted to be a farmer.........

Im not a fan of barn doors though, Tailgates are so much better. If I buy this one, i'd happily swap the doors for a tailgate. Oinker, thats done the rounds on ebay for a while now. I looked at it to, but was too far for me to get it. Congrats.
I really like the other early one thats been on ebay for ages. Too dear for me atm, but looks sweet. He has dropped the price heaps in the last month.
I need to go to bed and have a massive think about getting this pig.

I wanted this quite bad until I found out the freight cost. Agree about the PS, AC and disks.....What sort of suspension does it have?

What's with the huge cowcatcher bumper?
I've noticed (as I'm sure others have) that almost every Australian 55 has a huge front bumper, like a cowcatcher on an old steam locomotive. Is this some sort of req'mnt, or do people do it to actually deflect big cattle as they're driving 100 mph across the Outback? That would seem smart, but 55's don't usually go that fast...

sixty's guy: ih has ironman 40mm lift sprinhgs and 2" longer ironman shocks, which is not 18 months old according to the bloke selling it.
brider: yeah the big bumpers are needed (not legally or anything) if you head anywhere out of the city not soo much for cattle but rather the native wildlife, while kangaroo's look cute and cudle they will wite off a car/4WD no worries even doing 60km/hr ( approx 40mph). Drop bears are pretty vicious in some areas too, and can cause a bit of damage if u hit one......

They are mainly for Kangaroos. They get hit all the time around here. Kangaroos are pretty stupid. They either come straight out in front of you in a blind corner, or are standing in the road and get stunned by the headlights and wont move, or bounce across in front of you then suddenly turn around and smack straight into you. Around here I could take you for a drive and you would be able to count thousandsand thousands of them eating in the paddocks along the highways. the local government here is doing a cull of about 600 roos atm, and thats is nothing. they breed like rabbits. I live 50 klms from Canberra (aust capital) and on the main highway at about 3.00am you WILL either have a hit or a near miss with one. And you dont need to be in the outback, one was dead outside parliament house the other morning. They can be massive too, and will more then write your car off. or come through the windscreen still be alive and kick the shit out you. they are just a pita around here.
incedentily, i have a photo here of my dads 55 where he did hit a bullock out in the 'outback' and the bullbar made from railway line didnt do squat. Bullocks are like hitting a tree.

Was back at the wrecker today getting some parts for my 45. Couldnt see the piggy so I asked the old mate about her fate.
He took me out the back and there she was hiding behind a big old bus . He said not a part has been removed.
He said he would take $500. The roof is rusty, he said I was crazy.
I really need it like a hole in the head, and dont have the $$ atm, but I really really want a pig. The mrs will get the shits, and I have a lot of ""resto"" projects in my yard that never get anywhere.
It just seems as if the poor thing is crying out to be saved.
If she had a tailgate, it would already be in my driveway.
The doors are just plain ugly, and belong on nissans.
Is it hard to convert from doors to gate?
Someone please talk me into buying this
If any mudders want it, im happy to store it for the time being.

It sounds like this Pig is speaking to you...
Don't jeopardize your marriage or finances, but if you can swing it - save this Piggy!
FWIW, I like the amby doors.
My mother-in-law and sister-in-law tell my wife that the Cruiser hobby is a better alternative to me hanging out in bars with women of questionable morals. Cruisers keep me busy, off the street, out of trouble...
Good luck!

500 is a bit better but id have to drive down from brisbane how ever id think about it...... pitty there isnt a bench seat, im now hunting for one of those do you want any of the parts?? id think about buying it with you if your only issue is the finances. i wouldnt need the AC i already have 2 units. or the rust, i got plenty of that too. wouldnt need/want the 2F, im going diesel. :P its ages away (15hr drive which makes this a pipe dream probabily) but would be a cool road trip/ maiden voyiage for my pig (the hazard box) when i get her on the road soon and a good chance to meet another pig owner
it HAS got:
FF diff.
AC
rust........
retro style sun visor.
duel battery (redark style auto isolator relay?? )
long range tanks
good original steering wheel
Rust......
now a few questions... i kow you prolly wont know these answers and dont really need them but IF your there again take a look at a few of these...... no pressure, realisticlty it is prob too far to come, but i am due for a driving holiday
does it have or what condition is:
4 speed?
4 wheel drums or disc front?
PS??
hows the chrome on rear view side mirrors, and the door handles?
is that a stock radio in the dash??
int. door grab handles??
dash cover?? the glovebox lid looks good?
what about a rear heater?
the rear bumper looks ok, bit of paint??
the front valance just below the grill straight and relativly unrusted?
it would be a travesty to knowingly let this go to scrap hehe but if its too much effort or not interested in buying and scavenging dont bother yourself

Hey Oinker
Yeah a bench seat would be good, a bloke had one and a heap of doors for sale on ebay recently, auction finished while I was away, and I never saved a link, Hope he puts them up again.
4 speed good, has an aftermarker transfer though, (im bidding on a 4 speed box with t/f on ebay atm)
Front drums
No PS
Mirrors aftermarket, handles good
Not sure if radio is OE but I doubt it.
Grab Handles good, (you can buy these on ebay brand new and cheap)
Dash cracked, glovebox good
has rear heater, unsure of cond
bumper good,
front valance good
there are a couple of 55's on ebay near you atm to let you know
I have an EK Holden Station Wagon, that I need to sell if you know anyone that wants one, I really need to be rid of it to buy this. My yard seems to be turning into a used car lot, it seems if you buy one old holden or Cruiser, you just cant stop buying more!
I want a 55, the longer I wait to get one, there rustier they all become.
You should come down for a road trip. That would be cool.
get sixtysguy to come up from tas, and all go for a cruise
Maybe we should start a Aussie Pig owners club, and all meet somewhere once a year for the Pig Nationals
