I hear yeah. It could be any or all of that.............hopefully not valve issues. I replaced all the vacuum lines and reconnected per the diagram. I'll just keep checking things. It'll pass eventually.

Howdy! Hopefully the new solenoid will make a big difference. It should definitely fix the HC at idle, and it may help the CO at cruise, since the carb settings are probably all out of whack trying to get it to run/idle without a working solenoid. How bad did it fail, just a little, or a whole bunch? If it was close before, then the retune and an oil change may be enough to get you thru. Good Luck. John

Did you set valve lash?
New plugs?
Have you set timing?

Jack, it's Billy, the guy who came over to look at your 40 parts from Craigslist. That Pig is turning out nice. Have you passed emissions yet? Denatured alcohol has helped me in the past. Nice score on the parts 55. I actually almost bought it about 10 years ago when it was in almost DD condition. Keep up the good work.

I have done all the obvious things to help with emissions, oil change, plugs, filters, set timing and so on. I am awaiting the idle solenoid, should be here this week. It currently has the 200 jet in the secondaries. I think I'll change it back to the 175 though. I'll check a few more things then add some alcohol and try again. I have a contact at an emission station that said he should be able to help. We shall see what happends on Friday. Thanks again for all the suggestions and help.

Got the solenoid today and installed it. The old one had a broken power lead and the pin had been cut down. I also swapped out the secondary jet from 200 to the 175. Seems to run (no road test yet) better. I am shooting to retest next Friday. In the meantime, I can get 30 day registration and drive around some more.

It failed emissions the third time.......CO's on both idle and loaded. I guess I don't have the magic touch with the carbs.
Doesn't really matter though. I got collector car insurance, which makes it emissions exempt.....limited usage though. I then registered it and got the cool historic AZ plates. They are solid copper with red letters. This will cover me for now.
Action pictures will be posted soon.

The front of the emissions manual (and maybe the engine manual) lists probable causes for elevations in CO and HC for different conditions.
If I remember I will check mine for CO...

I washed 39 years of dirt out of the rear fenders, made some cargo area panels, and installed a bike rack I had collecting dust.
Need to figure out how to remove the old carpet cement, orangish stuff around new panels

Took the piggie out for alittle test run. Hit the dirt and shifted to low range. Everything seems to be working fine. Big test comes this weekend.

So, are you doing Crown King on Saturday? I thought you were doing it last weekend, and I was out of town all of that week. John

We are headed up Saturday am and returning home on Sunday am. Sorry I didn't get back to ya. Come join the fun.
As for clearing the filler neck, the panel just kinda bends and forms around it.

Added the SOR carpet kit and some hold downs. Got a few more upgrades planned before the weekend too.

Since the board error last week wiped out my trip pix..............I'll repost them.
Here's a couple of shots of the 55 on it's first wheeling trip. Made it back home with no problems...................just alittle rock rash and a leaky battery (discovered after sitting in driveway awhile). It was about 150 mile round trip with about half off road.

You want it cause it has the sweet scoop right? I still have it. If you're not in a hurry, it may be possible to get it up there. I have wheeling friends from Oregon that meet up with us at the Hammers sometimes.
