What to do about door handles.. more PO mods
See picture.
Top one is stock from driverside rear handle.
Bottom one is from driverside front handle. Yes, that is all thread welded to it
Not pictured is the one from the passenger side front handle. It was drilled and tapped for a screw
Is this a retard's fix for bent door linkage?
I'm getting ready to get the door handles cleaned and coated but this kind of puts a damper on it

Thanks for the heads up.
I'm curious if all the door handles were supposed to be a plain post or if the front ones were supposed to have a threaded "nipple". The passenger side one was threaded too nice for me to believe it was a "redneck" fix

Does anyone have pics of door linkage they can post?
I have issues wiht my handles, wondering if action on the linkage may alleviate things?

all handles look the same. Not to undercut anyone but these were given to me by a pig fan for us to use for free. As long as they go to someone in need I'll ship what you need out. You just pay for my shipping. PM me if you need one.

Troll, thank you for the confirmation that they are all supposed to be the same. I didn't think Toyota would be THAT weird But somedays they do pull some suprises
And thank you for the offer.
I will take a minute or three and fix the two bad handles up that I have... then properly adjust the linkage

Troll or John,
Can you show me what the inside of the handle looks like? My pass side handle sticks open when it gets cold. I'd like to fix this!

TJS,
you need to take the handle off, there are some screws behind the rubber gasket in trollholes pic, and pull out the button. there is a thin and VERY fragile plastic ring that gets gummed up. clean it up with some brake cleaner, use a bit of white lithium grease and re-install. they will work great after that. the dried up grease and years of road grime buildup is what is causing them to get hung up.

Thanks for the tip. I have this exact issue but never realized what was causing it.

So can anyone show me what the inside linkage looks like?
My DS door handle has a LOT of play before it engages. Sometimes it fails to open the door, I have to open from inside. I am hoping I can bend something in the linkage to fix this?

Using this image:

What do I do about the "plastic" bushing that surrounds the knob itself?
I have one that is in perfect condition all the others came off broken. I think I can scrounge three that might work but if there is a new alternative, I'd go ahead and spring for them

If you look at the top exploded handle, from left to right, you will see:
- retaining plate
- spring
- knob
- nylon/plastic ring that goes around the knob (looks like a brown ring in the picture)

I think the ring is for anti-rattle. Anyways, the six handles I've pulled apart all but one of these rings were broken. Some in multiple pieces some just a single break.
I'm looking for a replacement so when I get the handles back I can assemble the handles properly.

all the ones I have were split, as in one cut? or break or more as well. None were a unbroken ring.
I put one back together without any ring. It functions fine, just that the button is a little loose compared to the others...

My largest concern is having it rattle on me.
Last thing I want going on in my rig is rattles galore

the spring pressure pushing the button against the handle keeps it from rattling pretty well.

That is one of those things like the plastic clips that anchor the headliner (the L shaped ones particularly) that seems like would be a good injection mold project. ????

I think I have captured on film the elusive plastic ring that is rumored to exist...
Thanks to you guys, I fixed my passenger side front door handle from sticking.
It was a real pain in the a$$ when you couldn't lock your door(s) b/c the handle was sticking...
Thanks!
