John,
that sucks about the fittings leaking. your description sounds right on. I havent had any leak, other than one that the female part of a line was designed for a male fitting that had a non threaded shank on the end where it would pinch the flare. Turns out when I used a fully threaded nut on the tube,it wouldnt thread in properly and galled up the female part when tightened enough to seat the flare. obviously it didnt fully compress the flare and it leaked.

Great description and hopefully I'll be able to figure out my screwup.

In the attached picture, the fitting on the left is a stock vacuum fitting. As noticed, it isn't threaded fully. I have no idea what the one on the right is but it is fully threaded.

Are brake masters set up for fully threaded tube fitting like the right side?

I haven't had a chance to check all my fittings yet(this weekend maybe) but would I be better off having all my fittings being the non fully threaded version like on the left? Is there any downside to having them all non fully threaded?

Is there any reason why the non fully threaded version wouldn't work in all cases?

I have a decent flare tool if you want to use it. I've never had one leak, so I think it works OK. Let me know if you would like to use it.

Thanks for the offer Drew.

I've got this bad boy:
- Fun Deals 4 U
Mastercool Universal Hydraulic Flaring Tool

It is the cats meow if I'm using it right My big doubt now is that I may have been using the wrong fittings on my tube

Nice! That's the one I wanted and could not justify. Now I know where to borrow one!

I have been using brakequip bq4511 with good luck lately, and 25' rolls of tube from summit racing.
brakequip tube fittings

I will say that getting the usage of the tool down to a science does take some patience! That and the auto store tubing has a pronounced seam that seemed to either split or cause the flare to be off center. the summit tube is much better!

dont compress the handle more than about what you can do with two fingers when using the 45 cone finishing the flare. I think that thing has enough power to pinch the tube so much that there is not any give in the flare seat area which impedes sealing...

Needless to say, it is SO much better than twisting a damn handle and trying to hold the clamp dealio on a manual flare tool...

Is the tube with the flare without the nut in you picture just some scrap tube? It has a bubble flare, and the tube nuts for bubble flare dont work with inverted flare well at all. a correct inverted flare nut will have a bevel inside the end of the nut, and generally the bubble flare nuts will have a squared off end of the fitting... The bq4511 nuts I mentioned earlier have the bevel.

I just read all 11 pages! Very nice project and work!

On the current brake issue... where is the fluid? If your losing all that fluid- it's going somewhere, at least lead you to a specific connection/union? Just a thought? Aaron

Yes, the right hand tube/ flare nut are scrap from a bubble flare Just what I had on hand to show a fully threaded vs partial threaded flare nut

Wish I could claim the very nice work was mine I'll settle for the very functional portion of the work

It is leaking out of multiple connections So I know where it is leaking just not exactly why. It is leaking from at least one of the master cylinder connections and both the proportioning valve connections. I MAY have fixed another three leaks last week
