I agree, and while the 4bt (C) is a great engine I think there's other avenues to be explored.

Good luck in forging a new trail.

dwitcher: 3K and i'm really sticking my neck out with an R150 tranny, we'll see how it holds up, im not an NV4500 fan and wanted to try something that hopefully will be a much nicer driver.

rigderunner: agreed, 4BT is a great engine, but there are smoother quiter and more efficient engines out there, like the isuzu. i dont need the hard hitting torque curve of the cummins, something stong but smooth of powerband fits my driving style. i was soooo close to doing a mercedes engine but i have spent many a night dreaming of the isuzu engine and just have to try it.

Howdy! Neat. What are the numbers on the Isuzu: hp, torque, rpm range, etc. I don't know diddly about them. John

I had a week to prep my friends topless '70 fj55 for last years SNT. While working on his I decided I have one of my own so I found a '68 on ebay for $500. I won the 68 that weekend while we were at SNT. After driving his all weekend there I knew I had to have for '07. BTW what's the date for '07?

yeah i know, i'm slow but thats cause i have been waiting an unaceptably long time for parts. but i have it all now and progress will commence.

overall shot of new drivetrain:
engine, dieselswapper adapter, AAbellhousing adapter, 5 speed, 4.7 toybox, and 4 speed case.

and a shot of the bracket i made for the tcase shifter, as you can see it will come up next to the tranny shifter and the toybox shifter right behind it.

looks great...glad that thing is goin in a 55.

if i put that combo in my 40, i could use the tcase as a rear bumper, ha ha

haven't read up much on the isuzu...i assume the "T" in 4BD1T is for turbo? are you goin to toss an intercooler into the mix as well?

yeah i wanted the length, F/R driveshafts are the same length now so i can carry one spare for either end.

intercooler is not high on the list, its a solid maybe.

just for reference, the oil pan gasket is level with the bottom of the frame in that pic, the engine is now 2" higher in its permanent locale, lots more vertical room than a cummins. and before anyone asks, i'll be posting a few more detail pics shortly.
