I think I'm managing OK with this Piggie. My goals were never to have her perfect - she is going to be a trail rig - not a DD. POR does have some good sales going on. I didn't see the sale prices until I added items to my shopping cart...I got around 20-35% off I think.

POR15 has arrived. I'll be doing some painting this weekend. I can already see that I am going to need some more paint and probably some epoxy putty.

What you need is big-ass rubber gloves. Seriously.

Watch the air temps too. It won't cure under 45 degrees.

It will be pretty cold this weekend so I might just get to do prep. I will wear some of those long thick kitchen type cleaning gloves. I do like the warning on the cans...something to the effect of "if this gets on your skin you will be picking it off for weeks." I laughed pretty hard. I figure weld in new metal, two coats of POR15, rough the surface after curing, then two coats of black Durabak and the floors should be good. I will weld in the IPOR bucket seat bracket before the POR15 and Durabak. I think the Piggie might be upgraded from Serious Condition to Serious but Stable soon!

I have a line on a parts pig for some upper fenders but the owner wants too much $ - gotta talk him down a bit. If I can't get those fenders some of the POR Epoxy Putty might be in order...or I have been scheming to fab up some tube fenders - I wonder how those would look and work. After front fenders come the rear quarters. Gonna grind off the old bondo (I don't think its too thick), beat the metal as straight as possible, and then step back and figure out what the heck to do from there. I am going to add some rear protection welded onto the rear bumper and tied into the frame behind the rear wheels but I don't know what I am going to do with the sheet metal yet...maybe some Durabak ala Clemson55 style but just on the lower quarters - I'm not Durabaking my entire Pig!

I got about six hours of work in this weekend. The camera battery was dead so no pics until later in the week. Here is what I did...

1) Finished cutting out all rust on interior.
2) Flap sanded ENTIRE interior (minus doors and tailgate) from bottom of windows down. I went back with a wire wheel to clean up a few areas that the flap disc couldn't reach. (I wish I had a sand blaster.) I want to go over the interior lightly with a flexible sanding block/sponge, apply Marine Clean and Metal Prep, then POR15.

I do have two questions.

1) I am at the point where I really want to see some progress but won't be able to weld in any new metal until my welding help is available which will at the very earliest be this weekend. Can I go ahead and POR15 the interior but leave a margin of non POR'd metal around cut edges where I will be welding? Then, after welding in new metal POR those areas and then put one more coat on the entire interior? I know I might get a little spatter on the POR'd areas but I'm not too worried about that.

2) I need to replace the passenger A pillar body mount. I kind of have an idea of what I am going to do but want some direction on what gauge metal to use...any suggestions?

Oh - and I was so happy with my progress this weekend on the Piggie...then I looked up to see my neighbor's daughter backing up right into my wife's Heep Cherokee. There was quite a large sound of mass carnage. I walked up to the cars, the neighbor's daughter was scared s*&$less, her entire rear bumper has to be replaced, but the Heep only had one small scratch on the rear passenger wheel. I shrugged my shoulders and went back to work on the Piggie which left the neighbor's daughter quite confused sitting in her car which she still had not moved from the wreck...good times.

I think your partial POR plan is probably fine - it's probably a good idea to get that metal covered soon after prep before you get much flash rust.

Luke111 - that work looks great. I would just drop my truck off with him but he's too far away. I am considering buying his spare tire carrier. The spare 35x12.5 takes up almost the entire bed. Most of the metal I have to replace for the floors will be simple but that body mount will be a chore.

I didn't get much work done last night - got home late from work. I did sand down the inner tailgate and do a little clean-up. I want to spend a few more hours cleaning up the interior before I paint. The temps have been a little cold here lately (30-50) so I want to let it warm up a bit before I paint. I was going to take pics last night but I left my camera at work. I'll get some later this week and post.

ETA: I did pick up some sheet metal from a local welding shop this morning on the way into work. I found a guy who sells sheet metal pretty cheap and is interested in helping out with my Piggie. I'm going to take her buy once the floor and seats are back in to discuss him fabbing up some custom parts for me.

You might give him a call and see if he can build it and send it to you, a little triming and you can weld it in. I know they are extremley busy right now trying to finish Ryan 55 for the event in May.

I hoped to get some work done yesterday but the rain kept me from getting much done. The inside is not totally cleaned out yet but here are a few pics to give you an idea of my progress. The pics are pretty bad. I had to take them inside my garage b/c of the rain.

A few more pics. Before I POR the interior and as much of everything else I can reach I am going to remove the CB, rear heater, and weather stripping. I am going to POR and Durabank pretty much everywhere I've ground paint off - all the way up to the bottom of the windows.

It would be even shinier. I had everything cleaned up nicely but forgot to prep the tailgate - which put a layer of dust over everything again.

I have a little rust above the sliders on the body from the underside. Some has rusted through. My plan here is to wire brush off as much as I can (I wish I had a sand blaster) then POR15 the heck outta it and use some POR putty where I need. Whatcha think?

I think it will be interesting to see how the POR holds up under flex on the trail. Probably will do fine. Hard to say though. Can you tell from the older POR?

If the older POR was gray then in some places it has held and in others it has flaked off in huge sheets. If the older POR was black and on the sliders it has held up very well. What color and where was it applied?

It was grey. As is the area of my memory where I might be able to recall where I applied it.

If it was applied on the body where the body was welded to the sliders on the inside them most of it has come off in sheets. If it was anywhere else then it is OK. The slider's paint is holding nicely. I have some perforated metal I am going to weld on so they aren't so slippery (a request from the wife). Bumpers paint held nicely but they will be repainted also w/ POR while I am at it.

3M makes a nice grip-tape that you could use as well.

I'll take a closer look but all other paint seems to be holding.

As to the sliders I wanted something that was really rough - such that the first time I slip getting in the cab I'll lose every bit of skin off my knee.

Nope. Maybe Lance applied something when he did the welding?

I used skateboard deck grip tape on my FJ62 sliders. Just cut out a long thing section and apply it to the top of the bar. Lasts forever, and mud rinses off of it cleanly. Go to a skateboard shop to get it.

I actually scraped myself several times on the skateboard tape...

It shouldn't be your knee you should be concerned about....

My then 2 year old son got stuck in the first set of sliders that were on that truck. Slipped in between the slider running under the rocker and the hoop. That was interesting. Feet dangling off the ground. Later I kept picking up and/or getting stuck on rocks and logs wedging in there. Too much space between the slider and the hoop. Lance was not pleased when he saw them and we welded through the night as a result.

I've already cut that wheel well lip off and am going to fab something to replace - and that rear quarter has been chopped and I am going to fab some quarter protection of 2x3inch steel welded to the bumper and bolted to the frame behind the rear wheels.

Allright, all 3 of us have the blue & white 55's Fred Flinstone floorboards. Those will be a fun repair. I see you stocked up on the POR Patch. I bet I have 3 tubes on mine already. Your progress & prep work is steadfast, keep it up
