Vents
Thanks for all the info on vents, I will try and find the 55 vents before spending big money to have the hood cut.

Ceramic Coating
Got a pre-owned set from Cruiserparts, thanks Jeffrey. I was thinking about Ceramic coating the Sanderson headers and the first section of pipe that drops under the oil pan. Any thoughts

Man I really like the "vented" vents... though water may be an issue if your ever fording those depths..... I know that 55's that came with those vents had an air/water dam in the middle inside the fender.. might want to check to see if yours does and if not, fab one to shield direct water from inside the engine bay....

Hi Lou,
I checked through this thread and must say I am impressed with how nice she's coming along.
I was thinking, if you were willing to stamp vents into your hood, would it be possible to use a hood from a '75 (as hard as it may
be to find)?
My Pig has hood vents in stock form, and they function quite well.
Eng compartment temps are not a problem. The vents are internally channeled to keep weather out as well.
Best Regards,
George

Hi Lou,
I was able to get some pics of the vents I was talking about just for reference.
The first image shows the vents toward the rear of the hood. I am not referring to the cowl vents...

...Note the hump in the center which provides the rearward slope for the vent slits...

...And note the rear bracing also acts as the channel to catch the water, letting it exit out to the sides...

...Where the water travels down the front A-pillars,
Pooling up at the front corners of the floorboards,
Causing complete rust-out and destroying the body mounts
as well...
But that's another story...
Hope this helps,
Best Regards,
George

Update and Pic's
Here's the update, the boy's at IPOR have installed my Vinatage A/C, Radiator, Gauges, and fab a new center dash area, simple and clean, like nothing was change. They fab a plate that retains the two center vents and connects to the a/c unit , making it seem like one unit. It also has two side vents and defrost vents. All the gas lines are in, brake lines formed and connected. It's getting close.

The lower dash pad is pretty crappy so I'm going to order a repo, I think Sor's has them. With this A/C , you can't really tell from the photo's but there's still lot's of room for the passengers feet. There will be another plate that covers the right side of the A/C unit.

Is the radiator a cross-flow aluminum? Can you provide the source please?
Thanks,

Lou,
I hope you don't mind, but I have been over your rig several times. It is a Griffon Radiator from Summit Racing. It is a 24x19.

Steering Stabilizerfrom AU
Is anybody running this stabilizer? I bought it off Ebay from Company called 4WD1. Its designed for the FJ40 and FJ55. Pretty beefy. Any thoughts good or bad about running this on my 55?

Lou,
I have never seen a steering stabilizer with that design, but it looks a lot like the load enhancing shocks that I have seen on several of the 55's. It will be interesting to see what you think. What led you to these? Regardless way to think out of the box.
Ryan.

Cruising Ebay, check out this site, it has a detailed write up regarding the stabalizers, www.4wd1.com, they also have an Extreme XHD for Coil over and to help control up to 44's. The owner Kirk, was great to deal with. Shipping was a bit pricey, but it arrived from AU in four days.

First Drive
The wait is over, the Pig lives . I drove my 55 for the first time, this baby is fast and smooth and sounds as it should, like a big burly V8. IPOR has a few things to button up but it appears she'll be coming home next week, at which time I'll finish up the interior floor covering and door panels. Lance and his crew have done a fantastic job, it took longer than I thought and there's still things I'll be finishing over the next few months but I can drive and enjoy it. I'll have pictures and maybe a video of me racing Ryan Scott and his V8 Supercharged 55, which I believe is also going home next week.

That is great news! I have been anticipating the piggy homecoming for both of you guys and had noticed it was taking a little longer than both of you may have expected but that's what makes it 'Oh so goood' when you get to drive 'em for that first time. Have fun!

Almost complete
Here's my baby, bumpers, new turn signals and a few shots of the engine bay. Having issues with the fuel pump, so it's getting replaced. What's left? front seat belts and aTuffy Box and 33x12.5 MTZ . The 31x10.5 Michelin ride very nice on the road and is perfect for testing out all the new engine and drivetrain. Enjoy the pic's

Yep, just wow.
That is so sweet Lou! Feels freakin' great doesn't it-driving around town in your pig? I was driving down the main drag in town today and another pig pulled up along side of me and it was just cool. I even followed them to the grocery store and hopped out and said 'Hi'. They were loaded up and heading out of town for camping/backcountry fun. We checked out each other's rigs and it was neat.
Every morning when I start my rig it puts a smile on my face.
