| FJ55 My stock build for DD Well as most of you know I picked this up for 600. It had been sitting since 1986 in a garage. Was running before it was parked. I'm going to restore it back to it's stock configuration. WIll be using it as a DD. I'll be posting pics of my journey.
It's a 75 FJ55 pretty much stock.
This was it the first time I saw it.
2f
Dragging it off the wrecker.
Lowrider with 4 flat tires. WHich I found out later actually held air.
Porn and pot I found in it.
After pressure washing it and giving the tires some air.
Interior prior to cleaning.
Took all the tires off and gave her some new 235 75 r15s BFG KOs. I wanted to look the stock look. These are slightly larger than the 78s the original tires had. Also took all the drums off and cleaned and sprayed all wheel cylinders. Everything looked good. Will bleed everything later.

| Looking like a gem! Lots of cleaning and fixing of long ignored parts, but that will be a great driver once you get done.
As for the "funky" hubs, those are stock for 74/75 FJ55's. If you go discs, they dont work, and they can be a pain to remove. Everything you can see on the outside of the hub right now, from the knob to the shell held on by the six bolts is simply a sheel metal sleeve(the knob is obviously separate). remove the bolts, and gently work the sleeve a bit with an cloth band style oil filter wrench. once it spins a bit, it will slide off the inner casing.

| Never mind, typed before I saw the gear pic. Looks like a good rig. If yer going for the stock look and you need it, I have the radio out of a 76 you can have for cheap... Dunno if it works though.

| Awesome! It's the best story I've ever seen pictures of.
Those are some funky hubs. I thought mine were weird.
Hey, is that what a stock bumper looks like? Mine has a channel bolted on and I really hate it. |

| Yeah thats a stock bumper. If you look closely you can see some of the bending on it that they seem to do. Did you have the full set of hubcaps marshall?

| Well JP stopped by to see the cruiser. I had been working on the front grill. That wasn't very exciting so I asked him if he wanted to see if the pig would start. Put new plugs in installed the coil out of my cruiser. Which is getting electronic dist anyway. Cleaned the points. CHeck for voltage and spark. Poured some gas in the carb. AND the pig started right up!
Thats right. Right up.
Oil pressure came up to normal, and temp also. Now all I have to do is clean the gas tank out.
Thanks JP. |

| Wow!
That forgotten pig is looking great. Very cool thread: a welcome alternative to the usual "found a 55 and gonna part it out" story that we see too often.
Looks like you still have the chrome stripping around the roof line. Many 55's have lost that.
To me this pig looks like it would be a worthy candidate for extra work: repair the lower fender holes and the door injuries. The upper fenders, roof and hood look perfect. Then paint it with two colors.
Make sure you bring your camera when you first drive it...
Good work!!!

I'm planning on fixing all the rust. The holes will be fixed with a combination of sheetmetal and fiberglass. I like using glass in places not usually seen because it doeasnt rust. As long as there is some metal stucture and the holes are no bigger than a golfball I will glass otherwise it's sheetmetal. The fenders will be seeing sheetmetal and inners a good coat of primer and rust bullets.
I'm missing the right side chrome rain gutter trim. Are there any sources for it. Or anyone who has these peices?
Ordered a new key and clutch slave and master. Next week hope to be able to drive it to the muffler shop. Does anyone have a pic of what the stock exhast system looked like? Mine ends right after the tranny on the outside of the frame.
I plan on painting it a stock toyota two tone. The bottom being that rare burnt orange or pumpkin and then the stock white.
some pics of the floor matts that were in almost mint condition.
Sorry camera wasn't adjusted to the hot as hell temps outside.
Working on the grill and dropping the gas tank tonight to get cleaned out and repainted. |
