Good news. Brakes are bled and working.

Bad news. The crapping T-case has a hole in the bottom. About a 1/4 inch. Took side off an idler gear looks worn bad. So I did what anyone else would do. I put some JBweld on the hole and will filler her up in the morning. I'll take as a kind of experiment. How long will the t case last before catastrophic failure. My bet I make it to our annual meeting this weekend and not back. Good thing I have most of one in good shape in the garage.

Well the pig is out of the stable or at least was. Drove it about 200 yards back and fourth to the house. T-case will definetly need replacing no rebuild in it's future. Carb will need to be rebuilt as well as the drum brake cylinders. BUt it did move on it's own for the first time in 20 years. So thats a big accomplishment in my books. Died backing it into the driveway. I think the points are going bad. Now on to replace the t-case.

cool deal troll, I like what you've done to the pig so far, makes me want one even more! it looks like you put in a few days worth of work to remove years from the garage. Cool score!

Got a t-case from a 9/75 40 that will fit the bill this past weekend. Also recieved the gas tank last week. Taking it to be boiled tomorrow. Have new rear brake cylinders and will be buying fronts from ccot along with the brake master since it's all on sale right now. Still have to buy a tcase rebuild kit and carb kit. Have since replaced the steering colum cover.

Beat the dents out and the aparant crash damage. Have a new used patch panel and reverse light for the right rear corner. Will be cutting out the rust and welding in new steel this weekend.

Oh and taking the T-case out. I'll take some pics before I toss it.

I'm getting closer. Might be road worthy in 8 weeks. Just in time for cool weather.

Well more stuff. Picked up another tank from Lchamma. Just to good to pass up. BUt one catch it's an early model tank with no fuel return for carb. So I will be taking it to the tank to get a nipple welded on. I wonder if I could just use one of the emmisions nipples for a return? Would make things a lot easier.

Cut out the rear fender damage. the bottom corners are rotten! Figures. That will be some tough sheetmetal forming.

Coil and igniter came today. Installed it and the pig fired right up. Still have to rebuild the carb. Will only run with the choke half way out due to a fuel restriction in the idle circut. Still debating on whether to send it to JimC.

Radio also came in. Plugged it in and the lights came on.. Thats all I really cared about since I'm not a big AM guy. Will be installing a small amp and some speakers hidden for sound using the Ipod for tunes.

Transfer case and carb rebuild kit should be in this week. Bought a gallon of carb dip. (man that stuff was expensive) So the next weeks will be busy. Should be some good progress.

Update:

Decided to go with Rust Bullets Blackshell to paint a majority of the underside of the pig. Looks to be an easy good way of protecting it from anymore rust damage.

Got the t-case rebuild, brake master, all new drum cylinders, carb rebuild kit, and distributor rebuild kit in yesterday.

Took the carb off and began the dissasemly. I made drawings of where each part came off so it will go back together the same way. And bought a gallon of carb dip from Napa. I can say that that stuff works extremely well the parts that I have cleaned so far look almost brand new. I'm thinking it could be my new cleaner of choice. Though it's pretty toxic.

On the carb kit I found out one thing. I bought a kit from Kurt thinking it would be everything. When I got it home and looked at it it doesn't have some of the parts I really need. When I went back and looked at his pic on his site it showed exactly what I bought so my fault for not looking. I ended up bying a complete kit from CCOT for a little more money. So I waiting for that to come it.

One question are the vaccum lines and emmision lines. They have become hard and brittle. So they all need to be replaced. Where is a good economical place to buy 50ft of vaccum lines that retain the stock look? I have a 50ft section of hose that I use for drip irrigation that is almost a perfect match but I'm not sure if it would stand up to the heat. It would also be nice to find the little silver stickers that are on the current lines.

you will definately want my front bumper, it is one of the nicest things on the truck. looks almost new. either it never got hit or it was replaced somewhere along the road and then the truck was parked cuz it is realy nice for a 78 pig. i will look inside tomorrow and let you know what else i find.

PS edit, but you should check with cruiser dan bc a lot of things are still available thru yota.

Been working on the carb this week. All I can say is wow! What a complicated series of parts. Carb dip is the best. I'm pretty much through with cleaning and have gotten the main body back together. Most of the BBs used for one way valves were stuck to the bottom of the tubes. Found the accelerator pump shaft has one also in the bottom. Took a long pair of needle nose pliers to remove the clip and then a small screwdriver to free the stuck ball. I'm glad the hard part is over. And now I see why Jimc and mark charge so much to rebuild one.

Before.

Assembly and my funky diagrams to keep everything where it should go.

Who knows how the radio is wired up on a pig. I've got the radio it is very basic. really only one power wire and and two speaker wires.

Question where on the wiring loom does it pug in for power and where was the original Am radios speaker located?

WOW! That carb looks awesome. How long did it take ya? (Woops... just read you been working on it this week)

Any special tools that you used? (I just see needle nose pliers, screwdrivers, wrench)

THanks for posting the Pig project! Really is cool.
