How do you like your new beadblaster? Just curious as I have wondered how well it works.

for the price and the quantity of stuff I do it is perfect for me. I have a small shop so having it on wheels helps, really how well it works will depend on the compressor you are using it with, it uses a lot of air at 100psi so a good compressor really helps, one that can run continuous duty is nice and refreshes quickly, I use aluminum oxide in it and it seems to cut well, it is so much nicer than cleaning things by hand.

rear corner dent
forgot to add this one, started to pull out the corner dent with the help of my friend cruiserbrett, we used a stud welder, crappy harbor freight puller crapped out on us so will have to find another solution to finish pulling it out later.....

not really one incident, have had problems for years, too many times falling on my head I guess
back was broken in two places and the disc was like a pringle (yes, those were the doctors exact words)
so, had no choice, but overall was a success, just won't be dead lifting sm465's any longer, I am now old enough to know how stupid shit like that was.
will post up more pics of metalwork so other novices like me to this area can hopefully benefit from my retarded metal skills.

Hey there,
new job, new baby and thieving nannies have kept me busy these days, but I have got some stuff done, just have to find the time to post up. Hopefully I will get some more done on the body this weekend and will post up as I go. I am still in the metalworking / patch panel replacement stage for now. I want to get the body metalwork done, undercoating done, and then get the piggy body back on the frame. Then I will probably take a break from the piggy project, roll in the 40 and swap in the orion TC and move the axle back with 55 springs and TJ flares. Plus, I need the 40 stock TC for the piggy anyhow. So, it made sense that I would replace it with an Orion, right?
stay tuned,
Noah

Slow Progress to Report
Well, I thought I would post up and give a brief update and some pics, mostly I have only had time to do some metalworking. It is much more time and labor intensive than I have ever thought and with a newborn baby girl, time is tight these days. Sold the 4runner, sold the Tundra, bought an 96 Fzj80 (love it) and will be selling the fj40 in the next year (once I have some time to get it all together). Keepin the piggie.
I basically got the whole side passenger side metalwork done, now need to start on the drivers side. The rotisserie has been a real help and I am so glad I built it, this would of been near impossible for me if I did not have it. My metalwork is not perfect but I am doing the best that my skills will allow and learning alot. Most importantly I think I am trying to do it right so as not to have any problems in the future with rust, etc. I have found that the por putty has been working nice to seal welding seams. The rear corners of my piggy were shot so I had to cut it all out and completely recreate it, which takes a bit of time. Here's some pics.

bought a cheap harbor freight sheet metal bender, has worked well for my needs.....
and some more metal patching
at this rate I should have this piggie done by 2020!
this body mount piece was hard, rather than trying to recreate the whole thing, I decided it was best to reuse the good metal and patch the rest, turned out ok, strong, not pretty, but strong.

the little channels on the underside of the piggies rockers were rusted, so I cut an access hole in each, cleaned em out thoroughly, phosphoric acid, tsp, then coated with a thick lather of zerorust.
I also cut an access hole to the rocker panels in the rear where there was a bit of rust. I also cut some new drain holes all along the rockers, I plan to use some plugs later that I got from eastwood. It was a bitch to get all the dried mud and crap out of there, lots of time spent with a coat hanger and compressed air. Finally got it all out, phosphoric acid the crap out of it to kill any rust, tsp, then I used an eastwood product called heavy duty anti rust, great stuff!, it is like a paint but has a waxy film when it dries and it really gets itself into every nook and cranny, and repels the rust as it is basically an oily paint that repels water. I used a bunch of this in the rockers all over and sprayed compressed air to move it around. I am happy with the end result. I plan to spray this stuff up there every so often when the truck is done.

some hack job before me actually decided it was a good idea to weld a sheet of metal over the fender well rust hole and bondo on top of it, some pics and my fix, while not perfect to the shape of the wheelwell I plan to do a bedliner on the inside so you wont notice the imperfection......
the bottom of the wheelwell will also have some textured undercoating so the raised weld area will probably not be seen. Again, not pretty, but strong.

rear corners
the rear corners have been difficult, lots of time to remake the braces and try to make it look decent. I basically took a bunch of pics, made some cardboard templates and went at it.

and a few more of the rear corner fix, I still need to layer on another piece of sheetmetal to make the metal thicker where the body mount is, my friend mentioned that I need to be aware that that thin sheet could possibly tear over time, I think another layer of sheet spot welded and seem sealed on there should do the trick. I plan to drill the hole for the bodymount when I get it on the frame, that way I can get it right the first time.
and a pic of the new Fzj80, what a great truck, just stock this thing wheels great.
that's all for now and for alittle while, got to work on the 80 and get her all tuned up, then hopefully finish the piggy rottisserie work and get it back on the frame, then I can work a bit on the fj40 and try to get it sold for a decent price, who knows with this marketplace? I may end up keeping it for awhile. See ya.

Guppie,
That's an awesome restore you've got goin on. Are you in Fallbrook? I'm in Oceanside, and just met Mike with the restored Light Blue 45. I'd love to come check out your rig. I have a 72 pig and am about to start my teardown. I plan to take the body off and do the rotisserie also. Let me know.
