Dan, here's a couple of pictures of the firewall of the FJ45LV. You can see that there never was a blower in the truck or a heater but the window vents are there.

Cleaning off the underside of the FJ45LV. As I was saying, sandblasting either doesn't exist here or I'm terrible at explaining and no one understands what I mean, so we need to take off the undercoat manually. It seems that the torch and then wire wheel to finish up is the best way to do it. The floor is looking pretty good with the exception of joints and areas where the body mounts or other areas that collect dirt are located.

I'll have some of the kids knocking out the dents in the cargo floor and cutting and patching the rear sill area while others will work around the seat mounts and wheel wells.

Do you actually think it's possible to tell a high school senior ANYTHING? They've got overalls hanging on the wall, freshly washed, all they need to do is put them on.
Here in Guatemala it's all about PERSONAL responsibility. If he gets himself burned any reasonable person (even lawyers) knows he should have worn overalls. They throw those sorts of cases out of court because the plaintiff is too stupid!

Attention Mike (treeroot) or other LV experts

What is the hole for in the rear floor area (the one just above the yellow writing)? I need to replace that area on one side and there is some large 1/4" thick plate in the support under the truck. It's not a body mount or anything. I'm thinking maybe a seatbelt anchor? My truck didn't have any seatbelts in it so I have nothing else to go on.

Also, does anyone have the jack tray or whatever it is that is spotwelded to the floor under the front seat? Mine is gone, literally ripped off!!

Lastly, what is the small trapezoidal peices on the floor where it steps up under the rear seat? Anyone have a picture of all of them. I think one is missing but I don't know its function. I assume a strengthening item. If there is a spare I'll take it!

We are into the body work right now. As with Matt and his truck, this is likely the longest time. I'll be doing alot of it myself after hours though or it would need to be autobody class!

One of the classes will also be installing the springs I got from Georg. They finally made it down here. The "U" bolts and spring plates for the old springs were downright scary, torn, "U" bolts stripped and bent etc. etc. Anyone have a definite way to determine front and rear of each spring (I know the long ones are the rear springs just need to know which end of each spring is front or rear)?

The seat belt anchors look like these and they aren't evenly spaced. The step up has three of those supports and they aren't equally spaced either. I don't have an extra jack cradle at the moment but I'll keep my eyes open. Does the Idaho LV have one? The one Dan was parting? The floor pic below was missing the one as well but I sent one to Paul and he can probably make reproductions of it.

Is this what you need? for the heater?

I don't have the jack-mount, the one I had was rusted all the way through.

It's a start. I need to see a heater equipped LV to know for sure as I imagine the glovebox is a little different too.

Dan, I e-mailed you and I think I'll take the heater stuff. That means I need ALL the heater control and the heater itself for an FJ45LV. Anyone have spares?

Here's the install of the "new" springs from Georg. It went much smoother this time around since it was all greasable pins and shackles already. Everything lines up right too and the springs are even the same side to side!! We replaced the old tired bent and stripped "U" bolts and spring plates too.

We are working on the body as well but need a small sheet metal brake. Has anyone used the 18" one from Harbour Freight? How about a "build your own"? I've already spent all my shop tools budget this year.

You are quite possibly talking about the largest piece of crap ever produced. This is the tool I used for my build and it only worked because the price was right. If you care about your bends and want your stuff not to look as bad as mine, spring for a different brake. I don't even know where to recommend you go, but it seems like you have things figured out down there and probably will find something with a little looking.

Good luck, and please I beg you....don't buy it. That would mean that Harbor Freight would need to order more inventory. Infact, I won't even give you mine to use/borrow. It sucks that bad.

Here is a link to my tools. Yes this 18" of raw crap is one of my tools.

Finally a year and a half later (and two major surgeries) I'm working on the LV again!! Today in shop class we tore down two Toyota CT-26 turbos which we'll salvage the best from and that turbo will go onto the 3B diesel which now resides in the LV frame.

I'll try and take some pictures as we reassemble the turbo and actually bolt it up.

Do you offer sumer classes?

I would love to enroll.

I could donate a bender or sandblaster as tuition.

For a bender or sandblaster I might offer summer classes!!

Here's a few photos of getting the 13B-T manifold tapped for the pyrometer sensor and mounted on the engine. The turbo bearings were shot and the bearings in the rebuild kit were even looser than the old bearings! I sent it out to the machinist for new bearings and we should have it back in a day or two.

I found some 3B A/C bracket/idler and pulley stuff so I bolted that on today. Here's the "before the A/C picture" (I had the idler earlier and bolted it on so I couldn't loose it) and the "after the A/C parts" picture. 3B A/C parts are almost harder to find than LV parts!!

I hope to get the body back in the shop in the next while so I can continue working on that and maybe have it bolted on for good by the end of this school year.

We're working on the '45 body right now, cutting out rust, fixing dents all primarily along the bottom so I can get the body back on the frame for good.

I have a question though. In the latest Toyota Trails they talk about grafting a later model firewall/pedal bucket into the older truck for ease of installation of disc brake components. Has anyone done this?

Also, does anyone have good ideas for removing bondo? http://forum.ih8mud.com/paint-body/2...ml#post2968051

I saw that article, thought about doing that. Some just relocate that reinforcing rib and fabricate the wall to accomodate the MBC of choice. If I was going to go to all that work I would just put it on top of the other. Definitely gives you the opportunity to utilize more readily available MBC an Clutch master. Looking good Charles.. still got a spare single barrel?

Do you need one? I have the one of of the 45LV though I doubt it's from the 45LV originally. If you're interested I can shoot some pics and bring it up in the summer. It ran last time I tried but if it were me I'd rebuild it.

I did the firewall bucket swap in my lv it was a pain but well worth it. if you check my wilma thread I took some lame pictures of the process but it is there is some good info there.what I did was pull the exisiting pedal bucket and put the 77' one up ther eto see what was needed to be removed to have things clear then figure out how much of hte firewall had to be cut out.

Here are a couple of pics. This is what I am going to do. I have a section from a 40 waiting to be cut up. Should not be too difficult.

I guess the drivers side firewall is my next purchase at the wreckers. They must wonder what me, a gringo, is doing with all the old 'Cruiser parts that folks here don't want!

Anyways, here's some photos of what my rear quarters and the rear sill look like after removing up to 3/8" of bondo! Am I looking fairly standard or am I better or worse than others?

I think the problem you are going to have is not what is on the outside, a bad repair, but what is on the inside that they covered up? Probably lots of rust. Since mine were open I was able to sand blast the insides pretty good and then cover them with primer.

Mark/Jason, how much did you pay for that portion of the firewall? The wrecker that I have been going to has a new management and they look at gringo's as walking cash dispensers! They wanted nearly $500 for the firewall from a squashed truck!!

Mark, here's a photo of the center arm as it is on my truck. There's a bit of surface rust as I do not have indoor storage and right now the body is in the shop getting worked on.
