i think I need to make a dolly /tranny jack to put my tranny/transfer on until I get it back on in that thte weight of the 2 of them blew out my 2 wheel dollies tires out.
then get her tires on wheel dollies so I can spin her around in the garage.then i will tackle projects as I have time. prolly start with the body and frame. not sure yet if I am going to get it completely off the frame or just the body up on blocks.
I have some engine work to do and i have a custom built front crossmember that i got from fox fab, i forget who makes them, that i will mount a saginaw box too and it will run off of the stock 87 2f ps pump. thats the plan anyway. still not sure of the lift but thats a ways away anyway..
I have the tires and wheels in the basement waiting so it will come together eventually.

What is with these LV's? I was a half hour late to Jason's place because everyone wanted to know what this thing was. I've moved some wierd stuff and never had this level of interest. Even the toll both lady at the bridge held me up wanting to know the details. She'll be watching for you Jason!

Get one of those 4 caster furniture carts from Home Depot/Lowes/Tractor Supply. They work great for moving heavy stuff around the shop.

I think this was one of the first lv build up threads it just got put on the back burner when Mike convinced someone to pay him crazy money to resto a fj25.

so it sat in Mike's temp garage and I buggged him all last winter/spring when I would haed to his place for the work on getting the parts and install of my front elocker into my fj62. I would bug him constantly trying to get him to ditch the free money for restoring the fj25 and get going on wilma. then summer came and i just strated buggin him just to sell her to me. bought it last October and got it delivered yesterday. so the poor truck has been in restoration for quite awhile now. hopefully i will start to make some progress. Mike did make a nice collection of parts and schwag. and i have learned a whole bunch form all the various build up threads.

today I went to home depot and got a furniture dolly (thanks Nick) and goot he tranny on it and got the lv up on to wheel dollies, bought some body parts from Owenee Jackass <sp> and just looked at it a bunch. its guna be a project but i have no time table I am just looking forward to the various projects on it ahead of me.

we have one digital camera in the house right now which is glued to my wifes hand in that in the 2 years of my girls live's she has taken over 3000 pics of them so me getting it for wilma isn't going to fly. i'm guna pic up a 3 megapixel camera off ebay nothing fancy prolly something like a onnon power shot A75 and just have it set up to take perfect web posting shots so as to streamline the recording/posting progress of the build.

i will be doing some things different from some of the other builds going right now so i hope to add a bit of variety to the mix but i wan to say again i would not even have attempted all this if it weren't for all the great build threads

that view looks similar to the lovely views below of Wilma.
my camera is really good at making rust look much worse than it is. butI still have my work cut out for me.

Dumb question for someone here, but what made these things rust more than a 45lwb or a 40 from the same year ? Is it because they put carpet or something in to hold the water ?

I think thats got to be the case with mine. while the floors are simply horrific everything else is in decent shape. the fenders are mint and I only have one exterior body rust issue.
you can kind of see by these pictures how the floor must have been wet and how the rust creeped up the sides a bit..

The roof is braced with a square channel for support around the entire edge. Any and all water that collected in the rain gutter(one a small hole formed) would run directly into that channel. From there I believe it runs down the B pillars into the floor pan. There are four drian holes but they usually get blocked or still have the factiry plugs in them. Another possibility is the hinges are supposed to have gaskets but all the LVs I have seen are missing them. That also allows water into the floor area through the cowl and B pillars.

we lI finally got a block of time in on Wilma today. my plan is to wire brush and aircraft strip a section at a time. then seal it with a marine primer . i got the primer at WestMarine on the recommendation of a Commercial Fisherman friend of mine who uses it on his boats with good results. living a mile from the ocean I need all the hel I can get. then i plan to seal it up with an epoxy primer.

So today i wire brushed and stripped the drivers side and got the marine primer on. brushed. it was snowing and a bit cold so no spraying the epoxy primer. I figure I will wire and strip the rear and then spray it with epoxy. then spin her around and do the passenger side and the roof. and spray.

meanwhile i stripped the tranny crossmember and some other loose parts and plan to spray them as well.
well here are some shots nothing crasy but the baby bllue is slowly going..

I made a fair amount of progress this week end but it isn't pretty stuff.
i got all the stocke steering components off without hrting any of them. i will be putting a saginaw setup in so i will not have any need for the stock stuff.

I got a nice packagge of steering parts off ebay but that box is still at Fox's so I'm not sure what else i will need but the ebay collection has a late 70's steering colum and all the shafts to conect it to the saginaw box.

Instead of the typical scab mounting plate for the saginaw box i will be replacing the whole front cross member the last 3 shots show the new bracing which will also box in the whole front end of the frame.

If you don't need that crossmember, can you save it for me? I am going to patch this hole in the LV. I could use some of the stock steering parts as well if you don't need 'em.

Mike I will be careful when I remove the front crossmember in that besides some surface rust it is in really good shape. you might be better off just swapping it in. i am not sure how yours is my mine is boxed on the inside the boxing is resessed might be more pain than its worth to try and weld it all.
all the steering stuff is in good shape I even have the colum shift linkage too that I won't be using in that I will have a 4 on the floor.
i'd love to trade you the parts for credit towrads a new floor

It's been awhile since I posted prgress, but I have been working away just not making alot of progress been working on getting the front crossmeber out with out damaging it. the top bolts/rivots came off alright but the bottom 6 provided weeks of entertainment. but I was able to get used to some of my new tools so it wasn't time wasted.
below is a pic of the member out and of the vacant space.
then of the new one sitting int he general area that it will reside.

now before i can get the new crossmember in I need to clean prime and paint the front frame, guna have to do the frame painting in sections due to my limited space but it will all get done. anyway in order to get my new crossmember in I will need to trim the boxed portion of the frame as seen in the pics below.
question what do you all think is the best way to do this?

cut off wheel would be cleanest, but you could have that out in 30 seconds with your new torches

Ok I have made some progress. I got way laid with transmission issues on my fj62 but seem to have a handle on those now and have been able to put some time in on Wilma.
I finally go the new crossmember in. i think I wooried too much about removing those inner frame peices I asked about. they took me 5 minutes with a sawzaw.
anyway it took me many attempts to get the new crossmember in. at first I tried putting it together with the saginaw box mounted to the side brace. i had to spread the frame a bit with my high lift jack and got it all in place then found i was unable to get some of the new bolts into there holes with the sag box there so it came out but i had to drill a hole in the fframe to get a socket in there. oh well I needed to have that hole anyway incase i ever change out the box so it was good time spent.
so the i get the box side all put together then have to use the high lift again to pull the frame back together and voila i now have a supper beafy powerstering setup.now i can get the rest of the frame cleaned up and painted

you can see my new access hole for the steering box bolt in the second pic above. its the mediuem sized hole with the 2 smaller holes at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock on either side of it.
