Fogive me for my dumbness, but I'm not really understanding the question? Could you clarify just a little bit more?

Thanks, Matt

He wants to know why you didn't cut the front clip in (color) before you put it back together ... in Texan speak

Oh........, Texas talk......

There are a few more things that are going to get nailed down into the fenders, also plan on welding every hole shut in the fenders that isn't being used.

It won't be much, but basicly after I have a running vehicle, the front clip will get taken back of to get jammed and then back on for final paint.

Does that answer your question?

Matt

All I can say is DAMN.

This is simply beautiful. I have been following this since day one and it seems like only a few months ago I was asking where you found it. This thread is so amazing that time is flying. I know you are working at a VERY fast pace but man I love reading 3 pages every couple days. It is truly a highlight in my week. Thanks.

May be fast, but it is amazingly thorough, and far better than many build/restorations that I have seen that have taken over five-plus years.

Fantastic work, on both projects pal!

Once again, thanks for all the compliments and words of encouragement. You guys aren't helping with de-flating my ego though

Trying to do the best job possible in the shortest amount of time. I guess most of the fun is doing the work, wouldn't be doing it if I didn't like it. But, at the same time I want to finish, fun to see it done. Also, I know how many types of projects like this start and fail, or drag on for years and years. I don't want to loose any momentium so trying to see it right to the end. Still hoping to run across a good deal on a lwb, I would love to do a semi-stock build on one of those.

And Mike to answer your question, "Not a very strong swimmer" above my aviatar. I am a very strong swimmer, I love the water, pretty much grew up in it. It's more of an inside joke in my head that makes me laugh, and maybe a couple other people might know where that phrase comes from. It's from an old Saturday night live epsode when Martin Short was a cast member from probably 20 years ago. They did a bit where Martin and another guy were training for 2 man - choriagraphed swimming for the Olyimpics......even though it wasn't an Olympic event, they were still training for it. The other actor that was Martin's partner was extremely nerding, couldn't swim worth a sh-t and had to wear a life vest while he was in the pool. During an interview with the 2 out of the pool they were asking him why he was wearing a life vest. And he answered in a very nerding, quiet, muffled voice.....,"I'm not a very strong swimmer".

Anyway, that's where it came from and in my head it makes me laugh. Stupid I know, but I don't care

Matt

I honestly believe that either, "1941" w/ john belushi or "Stripes" with Bill Murray were 2 of the best movies ever made......period!

Not much done tonight, didn't try that hard this evening

Sanded on the inside a bit, worked mostly on the dash. Smeared a little glazing on a few of the un-even spots. I want to point out that the un-even spots were orginal un-even spots. So I'm not leaving the dash original, I'm making it straight. Little un-even at the top and along the outside edges, must be where they welded it together from the factory.

Not sure how much is going to get done tomorrow, probably some more sanding in the evening. I kinda told myself I'm going to take a break, put the skis on my airplane and go do some low level re-con out over the lake

This is what I meant by fast. I meant no disrespect or to belittle the pace you are moving. All I meant was I am amazed that you do not get hung up on waiting for parts or this came up or even when deer hunting rolled around it seemed like you were still working. I realize you have quite a bit left and not patting you too hard on the back yet. For me it is like watching a 3 1/2 hour long movie and you are so into that when it is over you look at the time and think your watch is messed up because it did not seem that long at all.

Just want to let you know I truly am amazed and AWE stuck by the type of work your are doing. I found myself driving to work today thinking about how you whipped out those seat covers and you did not even have the machine before this project. I know you had quite a few hands helping you but that alone would have taken me many more moons than it took you. Thoroughly enjoying your thread as everyone else out there viewing it 3x a day. Thank you for giving all of us inspiration and encouragement and I am glad there are smart people on here that can answer your questions and help you out with parts and such. 8) enough rambling from me. quite reading this and get back to work.

Anyhew, lots of finger f%^n with the dash as I was told this is the term for sanding tight areas.

Looking good kid......

Gotta a couple hours in on the lv today.

Not a whole lot, pretty much more anal retentive type stuff. I said I wasn't going to do it, but a spread some glazing putty on the inside of the wheel wells and blocked them out. The wheel wells were pretty straight, but a little dings all over them from over the years. I guess I thought what the hell, it's paper thin and didn't take to long, so there smooth now. Still will have to get primed and sanded a couple times, but should look pretty nice when done.

The majority of my day was spent what I said I was going to do.......flying!! Had to get out to the airport early and do some shoveling, then another hour or so to get my skis on. Gotta a solid 3 hours flying and much needed, it had been a while. Flew up to one of the resorts on the lake and had a bite to eat, it was great!!

I'm going to have to make up for that tomorrow and see if I can kick ass on the lv

Few more hours on the lv today, might even do a little more yet, not sure

Pretty much waiting for primer to dry until tomorrow to sand out, so not sure what I will be doing the rest of today. Got up this morning and pretty much just did little tweaking here and there around the body, sanding, making sure everything looked good. Drilled the holes in the rear sill for the taillight switch.

Pushed it out into the paint booth, spent a good hour getting everything taped up. Shot ureathane primer on the wheel wells and a few other areas I plan on sanding out at least once, if not 2 more times.

Sand more tomorrow and prime again.

Got about another 3 hours in on the lv tonight. Not much to talk about. I spent the first hour just sanding out a few areas I had primed yesterday. The wheel wells, dash, couple areas in the door jams....

Then I spent a good couple hours masking off and seam sealing all metal edges. Took some time, but looks nice and shouldn't rust.

Not sure if I will get epoxy primer on the top of the seam sealer and a few other areas tomorrow or not, might have something else going on. If not tomorrow, the next day. Then the plan is to wet sand out the areas that are seen like the dash and sides. And then shoot color, hopefully should be white by the weekend?

LV is looking great!

Is that Lake Superior? Or one of the other 10,000 "little" lakes?

Lokar shifter

first off - great job on the build-up. like so many others, it definitely helps motivate me and has taught me a thing or two as well.

way back on about page 43 of this thread, you were installing your Lokar shifter. (here is the link in case anyone missed it). i tried finding it mentioned, but what length of shifter handle did you go with. i see that they are available in several lengths, and yours looked about right to me. a specific part number would be cool too if you had it.

thanks!

12" Lokar shifter for the 700R4 tranny, I'll see if I can round up a part #. Summit or Jegs has the cheapest price on those also.

Matt

dont worry about the part number if it isnt handy - i was already looking on summit's site, but was just wondering about the handle length.

looked like you also got boot with the built-in LED indicator - pretty slick. i think i will go the same route since having the LED up on the dash probably wont look right.

thanks for the info!
