Only got about an hour on the lv tonight. I did manage to get the area above right rear door cut out and a new piece welded in. I have to work late tomorrow night so I'm going to get up in the morning and try to get in 3 or 4 hours tomorrow morning. Should be able to get the areas above both front doors tomorrow.
Also sprayed Lily white and Olympus white on a test panel. Going to shoot the twighlight grey through the center tomorrow morning. I'll post pics on the upper panel thread though.

Managed to get in a couple good hours of work this morning on the LV. Didn't get quite as far as I wanted, but then I did a little more on than I thought also.
More of the same, you know the drill. Cut out old, make new, weld in............
Also painted the grey on the test panel, but I'll post 1 pic here and a few others on that other upper white thread..
Gotta work this weekend, so hoping to do a little more Saturday night. Would be nice to get the entire drip edge done this weekend.
Also bear in mind, it's really looking like a bomb went off in my shop. Might have to take a weekend just to clean that now

Got home from work tonight and got a couple hours in on the lv. My neighbor is starting a 39 ford pick up project and needed a little help. Makes my LV project look like a walk in the park
More of the same: Cut, fabricate, fit, weld, grind, oh for fun!!
I pretty much have all of the drip edge rail done now, which is what I was hoping to get done this weekend. I still have to fabricate an L channel that goes around the perimeter on the sides and then get the other pieces I removed on the front and rear welded back in. All that will probably take me another week, then I'll start working on the roof.
Anyway, pics

Have you been keeping track of the total hours spent Matt? It would be very interesting to know, although probably frightening, how many you will have invested when you break the champaign bottle on the bumper to launch her.

I have a rough estimate that I've been keeping track of in my head, but I haven't been punching a time clock or anything. Probably should have though?
If I was to estimate since March......probably around 800 ish..... I'm probably about halfway done about now. From the begining I estimated 1250 to 1500 hours.

Got in about another 3 hours tonight on the LV. I pretty much managed to get the drip rail finished up.
What I wanted to do and did tonight is make an attachment point for a shoulder harness type seat belt. I fabbed up 2 - 1/8" plates that mirrored the indenation on the B pillar (you LV owners know what I'm talking about), should also be pics of it. Roughly 8" x 3" with rounded corners. Then 1 1/2" down I welded a 10 mm x 1.25 nut and sprayed them both up. I drilled 7 holes in the B pilllar, 6 to plug weld and 1 for the bolt. I cut a 3 1/2" x 1" hole in the drip rail directly above the B pillar. I drilled a hole in the top of the plate I made so I could attach a string to it and fish it down the hole I made. Once down the hole I lined up my bolt hole and nut and started the bolt. Once the bolt was started I could remove the string and tighten the bolt up hard. Once the bolt was tight it pulled the inner plate tight up against the inside and the holes I drilled. I then plug welded all 6 holes and ground them down, then removed the bolt. I didn't have to because it would have been covered up, but I decided to weld up the rectangular hole I made above the B pillar. Basiclly cut a 3 1/2" x 1" piece of metal, welded a nail to it so I could hold it directly flush with the hole I made. Tacked it in, ground my nail off, finished welding and ground flush.
Instant shoulder mount attachment point!
In the event of an accident it would have pull that entire plate completely out and through the B pillar, should be plenty strong. Not sure where I'm going to attach the retract unit yet, probaby somewhere on the front seat frame, similiar to a 75+ FJ40.
Had to do a little work on one of the inner pieces, cut and weld in a new piece, not a big deal. Also primed a couple parts.
Next is to clean up the entire drip rail on the body and prime it good. Do a little white painting on the rear end in the hinge area and then start welding those front and rear inner pieces I salavaged back in. Then make the inner structure down both sides. Then onto the roof.
Can't do any work tomorrow night, hopefully Thursday morning or Friday night, we'll see how it works out. Hoping to get a good weekend in on this weekend, but might take the FJ40 to another car show on Saturday, so that day might be shot for woking on the LV
Matt
