Matt, went out and looked at doors... because I received mine in parts, it was pure luck that my passenger side doors still had hinges on them.
Here is what I have.
Passenger Front seat = #2 Top - #4 Bottom
Passenger Rear seat = #6 Top - #8 Bottom
Thats all I can contribute as the others have been taken off already.
Hope this helps!
looking good..

YES!!!, that does help, but we need to get a little more info now. I am going to assume at this point (Ass-u (and) -me) that the driver side is the same. If your hinges are still attached to the DOOR, you are looking at the portion of the hinge and # that attaches to the vehicle, CORRECT???
If you could do me a huge favor, 1 by 1, remove the 4 bolts that hold each hinge in the door, slide that hinge out and tell me what # hinge is attached to it. i.e.: #2 hinge is attached to......#1 ??? Hinge?? This is just a guess on my part, but it soulds like you have the answer(s) I need. Whatever #'s and sets of hinges you come up with, I bet it's the same on the other side, since there are 2 of each, 8 #'s total.
I would make sure you take each hinge out 1 by 1 and put it back, or label them correctly. At the very least we and all others will have this info on this thread now if anyone else needs it. I am almost 100% positive that your #2,4,6,8 hinge will be attached to #1,3,5,7 - now, we/I just need to know the correct match for each set. With the info you have with your hinges still attached to the doors, should be good to go!!
If you could do that, sure appreciate it, I would like to get these hinges back together ASAP. If anyone else has there doors off, or hinges labeled, please post to confirm................
Thanks, Matt

Mike, one other thing.
If your other set of hinges are off the other door and vehicle, but are still pinned together???
If yes, you might be able to tell me the answer without removing them from the other door. Although you might want to do that anyway just to make sure there the same.
If your other hinges are still pinned and out, take a look, should be the same?
Thanks again, Matt

It is 1:00 in the morning but I was waiting for a load of laundry anyway
I can pull the other doors tomorrow when the sun is up if you want.
Once I wiped all the blood off the hinge and myself it looks like the passenger rear door top is 5 & 6. The passenger rear bottom hinge is 7 & 8. The short side looks to be the odd numbers and is also the side that goes into the door.
I taught that bolt a lesson, only broke the head off one and it happened to be the one right next to all the lovely, and shap, rusty metal

Dude......I need info, but I don't want anyone taking a bullet for door hinges
Your hardcore man, I like it Exactly what I probably would do at 1:00 a.m. if someone asked and I was awake.
Your #'s are confirming what Mikesta has got also, at least in terms of hinge location. I guess if it's not to big of deal I would like to make sure that 1 & 2 are a pair and 3 & 4 are, as long as you don't clean off another finger in the process. Just want to make damm sure the pairs are right before I pound those pins back in, I don't want to take them apart again.
Thanks, Matt

I am really confused now Why you would have 3 sets of 7 & 8 ??
Mikesta, I need you to look at all of yours now. I guess I'm figuring that my 2 sets of 3 & 4 are a matched set. I'm kinda thinking my 3 & 4 hinges are the front bottom hinges on passenger and driver side because Mikesta is showing # 4 sticking out of the door he is lookin at. That is also assuming that the PO of Mikesta's lv didn't pull the hinges out of the doors and then re-install them in the incorrect postions?
Treeroot, did your doors front doors close ok? As I said in my earlier post about hinges, it looks as though there are only 2 different sets of hinges although they are #'d 1 to 8. If you lay your hinge sets flat, I think you'll see that some of the pin holes are obviously further away from the hinge than others. I guess see what you think??
Matt

I will uninstall the 2 sets I have and post a pic for you tonight... I will look a little harder through the "basket case" of parts and see if I can locate all the hinges, clean them up a bit and post a pic of those as well.
Cheers

Mike, were those 2 doors on the wagon when you first got it? If yes, did the doors close ok?

The first photo is the passenger front hinge set. The short sides of all the hinges go into the doors. If you tried to put the long side into the door it would bottom out. The location of the tapped holes are in different locations on some of the hinges.

If there are 8 sets of hinges and 4 are different from the other 4...... That might explain why you have a 7 & 8 set of hinges on your front lower doors and Mikesta has a 3 & 4 set, the offset on the hinge could be the same between those 2 if I am right about 2 equal sets of different hinges out of the 8?
Just a thought?

More confusing than ever
The top two fronts are longer where the pin is set. Both of my front upper hinges are longer and are both 1&2 sets.
The rear uppers appear to be the same offset as the other hinges.

As far as I can tell, the front top two hinge sets are the longer ones. This pic is the front door.

I'm really going to have to give my hinges a good look over tonight?? Your right I am totally confused.
I am 99% sure I'm safe pounding the pins back in them in the #'d sequence now, 1&2 / 3&4/ 5&6 / 7&8. Just have to make sure I have a left and a right so the pins are pointing down.
As far as location.......leaning towards -
1 & 2 front upper
3 & 4 front lower
5 & 6 rear upper
7 & 8 rear lower
I bet this is what Mikesta's going to have when he gets home tonight.
I guess if I get the sets in the wrong spot, not so big of deal as pinning them together incorrectly.
One thing I was thinking of as why they maybe had different offsets is to adjust the doors in the jams. You have the bolt adjustment inward and outward on the pillar and door itself. Although if your door let say had a larger gap on an upper corner vs a lower corner if you were looking at the door from the side. They (Toyota at the factory) could change the offset of the pin/hinge and that would change the positioning of the door in the jam?? Just a thought since there is not a mechanical bolt for that adjustment in the door. That would mean though that all of the hinges should be different, maybe subtle for minor adjustments. Maybe would explain why Treeroot has a 7 & 8 where Mikesta has a 3 & 4, difference's coming down the line at the factory???
Again just a thought??
Going to be leaving shortly, about a half an hour, heading up to body man buddies to shop to pound some metal.
God I want to get this hinge thing figured out???
Matt

Ok, I have some pins here... Like Root... I have a few pics.
What I notice is this.
If you put in the pins... opposite each other... ie lay them both out and put one pin with head facing east and one pin with pin faceing west... you will have a set... one for left side of door one for right.
I only have the doors... so 1 - 8 are shown.
Here is the passenger REAR door.

Here is the passenger side Rear Door close up of hinges... pulled out and set on top of the door as they would slide into the door.
Bottom of the door would be 7/8 with 8 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.
Top of the door would be 5/6 with 6 sliding into the door with the HEAD of the pin faceing the roof.

Any particular reason you did not bother to label them before dis-assembly?..
That is Resto-101, at least it was in 1986 when I started doing it....

Sometimes the obvious is so obvious that you can't see it..................
This in no way diminishes the caliber of work accomplished. But, it is a bit odd that such a simple detail be lost amongst such fabrication skills.

The numbers could possibly have something to do with off-set or some other fitment/matching issues. Someplace in my office I have an antique microfiche that may shed some light on that possibility. I will look around and see if I can find it.

Mikesta, thanks for all the detail and the pics, that was absolutely awesome and what I was looking for to confirm Treeroots stuff . I think were all in agreement here that the hinges go together in a sequential #'d order, so we've got that figured out.
As far as placement, I'm going with my previous post, at least to start with. I'm sure it will be right, but I'm still kinda thinking the reason Treeroot has some different stuff might because of fitting at the factory, just a guess. At the very least I can pound all the pins back in with new bushings and won't have to take them apart again. Worst case scenerio is that I have to move a set of hinges from one door to another, but I bet I'm right the first time the way I plan on installing them.
Thanks again Treeroot and Mikesta for the pics and info!!! Help when you need it, this is awesome
Just got back from my body man buddy's shop. Got about 4 hours in this evening. Cut a portion of the other rear quarter out. He started fabbing up an entire new section of quarter panel while I cut out more rust and brackets that were underneath it. I fabbed up a few parts and got them welded in. Tomorrow evening I have blasting to do and priming, then more parts fabbing.
I would have posted pics, but I forgot my camera up there , so I will have to double up on the pics tomorrow
Thanks again, Matt
