Not sure what date the change over was from the large window carb. I thought 65 had the smaller window. Did your small window had th kick solenoid? I've got a few carbs and I know there are two sizes of small widow carb. The one barrel ended I believe in 3/69. Then the rest of 69 model year had a two barrel. No real reason I asked just curious what the date for the carb window change was.
Nice looking truck. Not to often you find them this original after this long.

Now I am really confused. I am waiting on the rebuild kit I had ordered, they told me it was for a large window carb from early to 68 model.

I know that the small window came in the later years of the one barrel carbs. The large window didn't last until 3/69 when the two barrel started. Did your small window have a wire on the back for the idle kick solenoid? I've got a few small window one barrel carbs and all of them had the solenoid. I don't remember if any of them came on either of the 65 FJ45s I have over the years but I don't think so. I think both had after market carbs. My 68 had a carter I remember and that was back in 74 when I bought it. That one now has trhe correct small window carb and runs great Funny how I remember the vehicle I bought 35 years ago but don't remember the ones I got in the nneties

John,
I checked the back of the carb, nope no wire or solenoid. The only wires are for the choke, throttle and vacuum advance. The plot thickens

That makes me think even more that the small window was original. One of the small window carbs I bought from a junk yard's back room. All the carbs had a model and year on a attached tag. It was marked 66 and had the solenoid. So a small window without the solenoid would have been earlier

I rebuilt the carb., freed up the stuck throttle cable (dash pull), lubed choke cable and filled up with fresh gas.
Now, I find out the carburetor insulator is leaking where the pcv tube inserts. Has anyone repaired theirs with an epoxy or do I need a new one?

Thanks Rob. You wouldn't happen to have a good pass. side front fender would ya'
I removed it from the truck, the insulator is not cracked, so I think I will be alright with some JB Weld or epoxy to hold the tube in place. I will have 2 days to mess with it, as I am at work for the next 48 hrs.

I got the tube pulled from the insulator, cleaned out all the oil, silicone and dirt from both pieces, mixed up some JB Weld and re-inserted the tube. Now the wait until it fully cures and I can run the motor and adjust the timing and carb.

I followed the "How-to" by Dom, and polished/painted the dash knobs. The "Vent" knob and control cable have been cleaned, polished and painted, I still have to finish sanding and paint the small panel for the "vent, heater" controls. The "Heater" control knob is cracked all the way around, I am hoping the "heater" knob on the LV I picked up a few weeks ago (Thanks Whitey!) is in good usable condition.

I finally was able to put the carb back on today. It started right up, nice idle, but when I give it gas it either dies or hesitates really bad. You have to feather the throttle to get it past the hesitation. Once it is past the hesitation it revs up nicely. Any thoughts on what it could be? I am also going to check the distributor and make sure it is free.

You may have a plugged injector.
Just kidding. Have you checked the fuel pump and filter? It may be restricted and only allowing enough fuel to idle.
If it were me, I would disconnect the fuel line at the carburetor and then cank the engine adn have the fuel go into a container adn see how much is coning out. The fuel pump diaphragm may be stiff after sitting and not allow the full movement or one of the check valves in the pump not seating properly not allowing any pressure.
Or your adjustments are off.

How is the distributor points gap and/or the points themselves?

All brand new and set to specs. What should the throw on the accelerator pump be?

Tony, sounds like an accelerater pump issue. An engine needs a big increase in fuel under hard throttle and that is what the pump is for.Make sure the plunger is not upside down or the bore in the carb can wear and cause poor plunger action..Just some thoughts..YT

What is with the blue Aisan sight glass. My carburetor has a clear sight glass, has it been replaced with something else or is it a model year thing?

Today, I got around to installing my new tie rod ends (Thanks Kurt!), pretty painless, finished it up in about an hour, now I need to buy zerk fittings. The ones I removed appeared to be original and I am hoping to get 40+ years out of the new ones as well . I have only driven this thing around the neighborhood but it is the smoothest and quietest cruiser I have driven.
