Hey guys,
A couple more smaller items to remove and I'm done with the dismantle at least for a while. Talked on the phone with Georg two nights ago and Rob and I have PM'd a couple times in the last 24 hours. The new plan is after Rob gets the LV from Mace in Vegas, he's gonna bring it to my house as early as he is able to. Then I'm gonna work on cleaning up the engine bay and frame, some of the body in places that won't be easy to do after the work party like the dash, and switch over all of the useable parts from my LV. I want to say again how much I appreciate Mace and landcrusher hauling this wagon from N. Colorado to Los Angeles, and everybody else that has given selflessly from parts, to cash, to words of encouragement. I still haven't found words that describe how thankful I am for all of you and don't know if I ever will. Here's some current pics... . __________________ Saline Valley Desert . . . i know you probably have thought about this already....but....i'll throw it out there any way
![]() are you going to cut off some more areas on your original body....that are suseptable to rust....looks like there are alot of areas that would make great patch panels still on you rig. Still makes me very sad to see your rig like that...brings back bad memories...still not as bad as you probably fell every day you are taking pieces off...but rest assured...these memories are going to be out weighed by the days yet to come. __________________ 1974 FJ40 OEM Soft Top (1) Child boy version (1) Child girl version (1) New boy Child, done as of 11/6/08 ![]() 197 Wife TLC FST Canvas & Maint: http://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series...soft-tops.html |

Johnny, After I take a few more things off and we pull the motor, I'm gonna keep it just like you see it. Once I see what Eric's LV needs, I'll cut off and use what I can. Anything that's left in decent shape I'll cut off and keep.
You're not kidding about how sad it is taking her apart. Saturday while in the middle of pulling parts I realized if it weren't for all of you on this Board I would have been totally depressed by noon. Just knowing I'd be working on another LV soon made all the difference. Georg, There are quite a few pics that I haven't posted. I'll stick them all in a file for you. __________________ Saline Valley Desert . . . Home Sweet Home |

You really have done a number stripping parts from that vehicle. That's amazing!
Simply amazing to see the damage that vehicle took to protect you. work party
I haven't taken time to read the whole thread again, but when is the workparty? I won't make the 45 run this year due to the house remodel, but might be able to spare a day or 2 for the work party.

Went over to Gene's last night and dropped off the cherry picker that we'll be using to pull the motor once we test it out. Had another interesting piece of karma happen by the by. Three and a half years ago I had my gas tank in my 45 soldered up at a radiator shop in Azusa. The day I picked mine up, I dropped off Gene's LV tank to have it checked out before I fired up his engine with the rebuilt carb at my shop. Haven't been back to that shop in three and a half years...............until last week! Dropped off my 45 tank to have it soldered again. As I was driving from there to the brake booster rebuilder, I said to myself 'last time I drove down this stretch of highway, I had just picked up my 45 tank and dropped off Gene's. So yesterday, guess what Gene asked me? Yep, you guessed it. Now I've got Gene's tank in the back of the 45 to drop off when I pick up my tank. Deja vu all over again. :hippie: __________________ A carbureted man in a fuel injected world. 65SWB45, 64LWB45, 68FJ40,72V840, 76HJ45[going],84FJ60[gone], 76K5, 73Sub454, 89Sub7.4[gone], 97Sub5.7 TLCA delegate, Trail Crew-LAC TLCA, The White Trash of the Elwood Chapter my website: http://www.marksoffroad.net |

btw, can you guys get the flywheel resurfaced? i have a new clutch kit here for the LV. just make sure it's a flat 2F flywheel and not the early disched unit but you already knew that.........

Update. Spent 4 hours out at Gene's pulling the old driveshafts, t&tcase, prepping and firing the motor. Engine seems to be ok, but has a little thump in the bottom end we could not identify.
Since the oil pan has a dent in it and is weeping a little at the skidplate anyways, the plan is to find a donor 2F oil pan and pull the old one for a look-see sometime between now and the work party. In the daylight, it was easy to see that the brake failure was caused by the driver's side rubber hose being rubbed thru against the inside of the tire. We could see bubbles coming out of the hose when we pulled on it. It was a replacement hose that did not have the stock tension spring. There was another spring on the hose, but apparantly it did not do what it needed to.I walked over to my truck, looked at my driver's side hose, and all I could say was.............NEXT! ![]() Gene took pics. __________________ A carbureted man in a fuel injected world. 65SWB45, 64LWB45, 68FJ40,72V840, 76HJ45[going],84FJ60[gone], 76K5, 73Sub454, 89Sub7.4[gone], 97Sub5.7 TLCA delegate, Trail Crew-LAC TLCA, The White Trash of the Elwood Chapter my website: http://www.marksoffroad.net |

Georg,
I can bring a surfaced flywheel. I have a pair of the 2F ones, and can get it surfaced for the working party... __________________ Brett Lotsa cruisers and little time. |

I noticed the door mirror bit it in the roll. I will be sending two out to Gene when I can get to the post office. They are black and in pretty nice shape. I am focused on some of the crap that is above and beyond all the mechanical stuff you guys will be doing.
Been collecting funds to get the real crucial piece to the truck that was destroyed in the crash. Hope to have money soon and will be sure to have it ordered in time. It is a bit like icing on the cake. By the way, what are the plans for the body? I have a semi local source that can put specific colors in rattle cans. Might be a great way to get a nice paint job done piece by piece.. Just a thought. Goebs __________________ 71 fj55, 72 fj40, 75 fj40, 76 fj40, all sucking my wallet dry... Guys, old metal rules. I know many of you hate looking at the pictures... I do as well... but new steel... and Gene would be in ICU and we would have a prayer thread going on.
Nothing wrong with prayer threads, but I'm so glad that instead of that we have a rebuild fj35 thread going. Here's to old steel!!!

That's exactly what the CHP officer said when closely looking at my wagon. Except instead of ICU he said I would have been DOA. And I'm really glad it's not a prayer thread too. Thanks Mikesta.
