Here is the body ready to go. The firewall is painted with a paint product called Zero Rust. It is similiar to POR 15, but a little cheaper.

I used a two part epoxy primer to seal the body. I used a flap wheel with 120 grit to strip the paint, filler and rust off of the cab.

In the second pic you can see the hidden deck in the glove box. I am going with a dashman box so I don't need the space. That, and i have a factory blank out plate I really wanted to use.

I am going with the original color of the firewall. 621 rustic green. I was going nebula, but there may be too many others around

Lookin good - I like working at the shop when no one else is there. Especially when I put everything back where I found it but leave one thing slightly out of place. Then when back at work watch and see the machine operators scratching their heads and asking if anyone was messing with their setup. BTW I am the foreman - Hee Heh I always say "no man, no one was in since you left Friday...."

Yeah - that was ugly. Really makes for satisfaction in a job well done when you look at the b4 and after shots.

Ok, here are some details....

I used a siphon feed gun with a 1.7 tip for the primer.
I used a gravity feed gun with a 1.4 tip for the top coat.

Paint and Primer I was very happy with.

Here are a couple shots. I got about 3 solid coats of Urethane 621 Rustic Green and 2 coats of Epoxy primer.

I am not expecting this to be a trailer queen or show truck, which is why I decided to paint it myself. My money can be way better spent elsewhere. That, and I wanted to learn how regardless of the results.

I am fairly happy with the way things went. I had about 2 large drips that I sanded out with 600 grit and painted over again. There is very little evidence of my mistake.

Now I can going to start assembling just the cab and parts in my one car garage.

Just a bit of snow eh? My brother missed x-mas here in Calgary because the Vancouver airport closed as he was sitting on the runway. I've got 5' tall snowbanks on either side of my driveway. Hope your going to tarp that up nice - it's too pretty. I tried my first automotive type paint job this past summer and sprayed my Harley in the garage. Great learning experience. Came out so well I think I'll spray my 45 myself. Great work Dr.

update.

I took apart the heater, rebuilt and painted it. I am going to install it in the next while.

I have finished painting the inside of the cab with POR 15. I then Herculined over it.

I am starting to install the dash pieces and knobs / wiring tonight!

I post some pics in the next while.

I have been busy over the last couple months finishing the dash and related wiring. I bought this thing as a bare tub so it has been interesting figuring out what goes where. Mud has been great for searching for pics!

This will be built from upwards of 15 dead 40's + 45's by the time I am done. (this is the only one I currently own )

I have rebuilt the heater and hooked up miscellaneous stuff. I am still missing a choke and the switch for the spot lights.

Here is a pic of the dashman box and other neat dash stuff.

I have been doing a HUGE amount of work on the hard top rear piece. It was like swiss cheese! I have not even touched the roof yet.

Here are some speaker mounts I am working on.

Awesome that you are "building something from nothing" or in other words saving cruisers and parts thereof from the crusher.

I like the idea of speaker boxes fabbed into the cab. I had my head unit in the glove box of my 81 Toy P/U also. Works great given the narrow cab and lack of dash space. Keep us posted, progress looks great,

Looking good, keep up the good work. Speaker boxes in the rear corners is a cool idea.

Funny that you decided on the Dashman box for your truck, too. I just ordered one from Mark Vickers on Friday.
