What is the great deal, exactly? The guy blabs about the truck but never does say how much he wants for it. I assume that's Jonathan?

Looks nice and may be put together well but...

Yes this is one of Johnathon's. Only $125K. But it does have few scratches.

Yeowch. I see why the cost wasn't in the video now. Too much of a deal.

It does have full dynatrac axles with ARB air lockers and a new Vortec 5.3 motor (5k for the crate motor from GM, and 4k a piece for fully built Dynatrac axles). You have to understand TLC builds way nicer stuff than the average TBI swap cruiser thats on the road with bugger welds everywhere. Just had to give my 2 cents as I just did a ground up with a full powdercoated frame and cage, nicely welded everything, with a new crate 5.3 and I fully understand what goes into a build of this scale. Some people build stuff to abuse, others build what I like to call art.

Don't get me wrong, TLC builds nice stuff and I am all for capitalism and making money. I would love to stroke a check and buy one, but not in my price range. They do set the standard for high quality builds, IMO.

I agree TLC builds rigs that would be considered as a work of art. I wish there was more like there builds on the road to look at, still considering thats alot of dough.

I was fortunate to drive one earlier this year (even did some light wheelin') & agree they are very well put together, however I fail to see the value.

The one I drove had a SB Chev mated to a five speed. Handled nicely but I think my modded FJ/BJ outperforms it on the trail and on the road. I have spent more money on it than it's worth, but still nowhere near the price of an ICON.

I'm not knocking what TLC does - in fact I commend them for doing what they do - it's just not enough bang for the buck for me.

I understand the price thing, just like art, it is only worth what someone will pay for it. The other side is that if you have an eye for detail and the right tools, it would be way cheaper to reproduce at home for 1/5th of the cost with all the cool little goodies. But I also can't imagine anyone buying a leaf sprung vehicle for as much as they ask. Have any TLC cruisers gone to Barrett Jackson??

Also, what is built to be abused is art also, just a little more rough around the edges, it brings more smiles than a rig that just looks pretty and can't be wheeled too hard cause you don't want to scratch it.

Thats a good question to see what one would bring @ a BJ auction. I watched a blue 40 with lots of bling , tailgate bbq, 42 '' plasma u name it . Too much I know but it looked professionaly built for under 30k. Alan Jackson had a 45 wagon sale for close to a 100k I think( don't quote me on it)

Alan Jackson's FJ45LV that was built by TLC sold for $84K including the buyers premium. TLC trucks are obviously not sold for their ride or ability, they are sold for their looks and individuality. That being said, I have been told that TLC is not building too may of the retro rides any more, probably bc there is no money to be made. It takes too much time to repair rust etc. for it to be profitable. He is using new Aqualu bodies.

This sounds funny - they can't turn a profit because of too much rust. Maybe they have to increase their prices a little to help offset their additional costs . . . .

That's the problem with those southerners - they're just not used to it. Rust runs in our veins up here. . . .

What I should said was that there are not a lot of people who are willing to pay the cost to properly repair rust because it takes a crap load of time to do it correctly. Therefore, it is not profitable, IMO, to try and run a business that relies heavily upon rustification as it main source of income. I think you get the point. But if it is what you love, then go for it. Do what you love they say.

LMAO, thats true, we don't get much rust out here. I grew up in the Chicagoland area (land of winter salt use) and also Idaho in my teens and learned to thoroughly enjoy the lack of salt and rust here. But it is humbling now and again to work under a truck in the winter up north and have dripping salt slush get in my eye.
Definitely better to start new for what they want to do. Plus someone needs to fill the 100k and up end of the cruiser market.
