No real need to blast and repaint the frame, it looks great
You're crazy.. when's the next time the tub will be off the frame? Might as well do it now while you can.

The only way I would spray parts on like that is if I had already painted the back/hidden side/section...and even then I probably would not do it this way. I prefer to take it all apart, and make sure she is clean, and properly painted...even when I airbrush smaller things.

Just the way I'd do it if I was taking the time to be this thorough...what's an extra couple of days at this point

While I wouldn't call you crazy, I agree with Wes...you are so close, might as well do the frame now...I wouldn't por 15...just a good primer sealer paint.

Remove everything, paint the edges, backsides, interiors, nooks, crannies. Then bolt the pieces back in place and overcoat the whole thing. remember these are all either moving pieces or have huge gaps where you can see the "hidden" surfaces. Nothing worse than folding down the windshield and have the bottom edges staring you in the face with poor or no finish.

Oh yeah, and paint the frame.

Wasn't paying attention. Your frame is too nice to ruin with POR15. Clean, , use an etching solution to kill the rust, neutralize, prime and paint.

por 15 is not so great eh?
( sorry just noticed you mentioned that too Dean )

I definitely plan on cleaning and hitting with metal ready or a similar etching solution. Priming and paint would be easy enough i guess hehe.

Hopefully i can get the tub ready for removal by next week, we will see

Destin I had my 65 painted at the panel shop in a full paint booth. I know and trust these guys - they had no hesitation to pull everything off including the windscreen, hinges - the lot and paint them separately. I very much left it to them to apply their expertise. In a cruiser that was reatively rust free have a look at the corner where the widscreen hinge should be in this early shot of it being stripped back.

Cheers Dobster

Good point!
That settles it off it comes
Any tricks to freeing up those screws?
I have been soaking the lower screws of the hinge from the inner fire wall with penetrating oil. ( spray, tap and let sit )

However where the hinge connects to the windscreen, the rear of the hinge screws are not very accessible...
I guess i need to be just more patient like every one keeps mentioning

Thanks again guys

Drastic would be drilling them out. If you can't get them out now you're going to need an impact driver. Use the correct size screwdriver or bit too.

Advise is the same as above for the screws, lubricant - heat - impact.

There are a few photos in my album

nice man

And thanks

Love that green btw, looking good!

Post pics of your 25 when you get a chance

Did you make a little mount to hold your clutch and brake masters while it was being painted?

I was thinking about using a piece of metal to bolt them too and hook it to the engine while the tub is off ( so i do not have to rebleed the brakes etc again, just redid them

I don't think so. We new it was going to be a long process when we started, so I'm pretty sure that anything with any fluid was drained, so the brakes will definitely be re bled. As you can see from the pics they left the tub on the chasis to paint it, and I think the motor stayed on the chasis also. All the panels were taken off and painted first.

Cheers Dobster

if by torch you mean oxy acetylene
it's not necessary, either mapp or propane should work fine.

well bought an impact driver...

Things would not budge.
I might need a bigger hammer or need to hit it harder.
Kinda of intimidting, do not want to smack my hands.
Turning the driver in the direction of the bolt and smacking...

Also, how do i go about removing this the indicator column >?

I take a Snap-on #3 Phillips 3/8 drive and drive it into the screw with a dead fall hammer. Then take my 18V impact and give it a quick pull. Never had an issue this way. I know most don't have these two tools but it works.

Need my impact and bit?

I beat the Phillips in so its a tight fit, well the tightest possible. The impact hammer like mine gives it a couple good hits to free it, It's not like using a 16" ratchet that will slowly mar the head.

I might hold off and get everything else disconnected this weekend.

Maybe I can pay you to come out one of the ensuing sunday's and help me get those damn windscreen bolts loose
If your busy at that time maybe i can borrow your gear and give it a try

How's your project coming along?

You are soaking those screws from both sides? The tub is pretty easy. The windshield is possible thru the open for the vent. Would pretty messy so make sure you clean it well before painting.
