TRD Exhaust
Is there any reason to get this thing? Is there a definite HP gain? Does is hang any lower then the stock (possibly to interfere with dropping off a rock or ledge)? Are there any other after market options other than this that do better or as good for less money/more capability? Being a newbie to wheeling, are dual exhausts frowned upon off road?

theres another thread or 2 about the TRD exhaust floating around here. my opinion? i don't know about HP boosts, i've heard people swearing there is no HP boost, then i've heard the number "5hp" floating around. but i will say, i enjoy the sound from it.

I personally do not like the sound when it is hooked up to a auto tranny. I have not heard it with a manual. But since it is a cat back I would save my money for something more important. Like better rubber........

If you already have the TRD exaust.. you can find good aftermarket mid pipes (JP?, Magnaflow, Flowmaster?) for about $150 installed and that would make a noticeable difference in Horse power/sound. of if you go to your local shop I am pretty sure you can find a good deal on a custom cat-back (the TRD exaust is an axle back) for about $250-300 __________________ 07 FJC 33" STTs, OME lift |

thanks for the correction. I am even more sure I made the right choice by not ordering the TRD exhaust then before.

That is an axle back exaust.. I don't see a mid pipe there at all.. just muffler and exaust pipe..
here's a true catback.. ![]() That's for the corolla XRS (my other car) here's the TRD axle-back ![]() same idea just much shorter because of the vehicle dimenssions and design here's the Borla Axle back(same company that makes the TRD exaust for the FJcruiser) See the similarities in the disign? It is still an axle back exaust ![]() also I highly doubt that the TRD exaust goes all the way up to the catalitic converters.. wich are at an angle coming down from the headers.. plus I don't see a split on that "cat-back" which would not make it a catback because the 1st catalitic converters are before the headers meet with the mid pipe __________________ 07 FJC 33" STTs, OME lift |

That's what it says. I am telling you catback systems for every car that I have owned include muffler and the mid-pipe.. which is not existant on the TRD exaust.

You win, how can I argue with logic like that.

No comment on the cat-back argument. In regard to the original question, I enjoy the TRD exhaust on both my FJC and 06 Tacoma. The look and sound are enough for me. It does not sound like an American V8 dual exhaust, but it does IMO make Toyota's 6 sounds decent. I like that it is a true factory option. I think the HP gain, if any, is small. Is it worth the money? How much do you have to spend? It was worth mine. And here's your change $.02

i dunno if you guys in the stock exhaust FJ's notice this, but at highway speeds, my FJ (With TRD Exhaust), and by highway speeds i mean 70mph+, my truck sounds awesome. if i close the windows and turn off the sound system, it sounds like the inside of a military transport plane. if i were to pack my FJ with friends and scream "30 SECONDS!" i'm pretty sure i'd get them saying "30 SECONDS" back. i dunno about you guys, but i really like that powerful aircraft engine sound.
