Basically isn't an FJC anymore. I would have enjoyed watching them build it up as much they could retaining the stock transfer case and IFS just to see how far they could take it offroad. Might as well build a Ford Escape, throw D60's under it, an Atlas, and 39's. Whoopee.

What a monster! Can't believe how brutal an FJ can look if your wallet is thick enough?

That is true, but one has to remember why it was built. It is done by the sponsors, one of which is Dynatrack. So the Dana 60's make sense. Anyway this allows companies like All-Pro to do the SAS and not have to break the bank, even though I am pretty sure they already have a ton into it. Otherwise the development of a SAS will take years and all the R&D will be on one company. In the end, it is good for those people that want to do the same later on. Also if you had to R&D a SAS you would have to be pretty sure it sells to get your money back. This way they put up the time and $'s up front and at least are guaranteed exposure and a way to judge the response.

Yes, it would have been cool if the truck was built with all Toyota parts. Maybe some Diamond axles from front Front Range Off-Road with 80 series ends, Toyota center sections, 80 series tcase, etc etc. But those companies were not sponsors.

It takes a ton of time and money to put this together. Fred Williams has been busy with this since Easter Jeep and a number of companies were involved in the build.

At least we will see if the sheetmetal and tail lights makes it through the trail

Don't get me wrong, I am not a fan of IFS, I just thought that it would be neat to see how far the stock components would go before grenading.

Christo, I see what you are saying and it does make sense. This FJC is being built like all the UA trucks before it. I just prefer the incremental build ups. I look at my vehicles and if I had built them to the state they are in currently the first time through, it wouldn't have been as much fun. From a financial standpoint, it doesn't make much sense, but it still intrigues me more than throwing the top of the line stuff in right away. Like maybe they could have done the SAS and tried to keep the stock Tcase and Atrac intact. I know, I know.........sponsors. This build IMO just isn't that exciting. To each his own.

I think I'm with DBS311. Not that its not a cool rig, but to me it would be a whole lot cooler if they retained more stock components. I guess I just like more real world kinda builds that are done well, vs lets take a vehicle and totally change what it is so basically the only thing about it that retains its heratitage is the body. I guess its just not my thing. But then again I've seen FJ-40s that were built w/ Jeep Rubicon frames/drivetrains and people thought they were the coolest thing ever. Makes no sence to me but to each his own...

My Guess is that someone on the UA will have one that is still more to stock so we can see how it performs... but I think we can start making bets on the life of the tail lights.... I call the passanger side one is toast on the first Tight opstical with sidehill action.

Fo-runna, I am not a purist by any means. What I am meaning to say is that anybody (with $$$) can make any vehicle from the showroom into a killer rig. I was just hoping they would start more basic with this build, and as they hit the strength limits of the stock components, upgrade as needed.

I wanna see how far an FJC can go before you need to start throwing the D60's and Atlas in there.

Is there something in my sig line that suggests purity??

I think one also has to remember what the Ultimate Adventure is. Essentially it is about the trip and not as much the build-up. 7 days of hardcore wheeling with road sections in between. Can not trailer the rig, have to do all the trails, and have all your spares and camping stuff with you. So you have to be self sufficient and make repairs as needed allong the way.

No matter what your opinion of the build are, being respectful of other member's comments (even if you disagree) is a valued commidity here.

Thank everyone

- I think it's a pretty cool rig. There are plenty of companies doing "stock" builds and it's nice to see a no-holds-barred setup so early in the FJC's life.

All-Pro (and others) are building FJC's that are (and will be) testing the limits of the stock components. In time you'll see ahellava lot more. This one is purpose built.
