Buttons inside the FJC

OK, maybe a stupid question, but in my FJC on the dash there is a button next to where the ATRAC button would be that has a little car with a radio like wave coming from the roof down. I have no idea what it is or what it's for. It doesn't do anything when I press it. And ideas? I'll try to take a pic tonight and post it when I get out of work.

I second the idea of parking sonar, for reverse only.

maybe it opens/closes the neighbors garage door. Maybe you should go ask them if their door has been acting odd lately.

It's part of the alarm that was installed at the dealership; the button disables the interior proximity detector. Push the button and the security light starts flashing (beside the radio) - when you lock the door, the interior proximity sensory is disabled.

the button in question

I was told it is for the speakers in the headliner. If you have the FJAMMER stereo it comes with speakers on each side of the dome light. You have to put your ear up against the headliner to tell exactly where the sound is coming from.

I think the headliner is the speaker on the FJAMMER system.

Nope.

There are two speakers located in the ceiling, they use the headliner as a diaphragm to "disperse sound more evenly throughout the entire listening environment."

These speakers are on all FJCs, not just the FJammer system.

And here I thought a diaphragm was a part of a speaker.

From Toyota's press release:

The FJ Cruiser is equipped with a pair of NXT SurfaceSound transducers, which convert the vehicle's ceiling into a speaker diaphragm. It marks the first time this technology has been used in a motor vehicle. The result complements the conventional speakers elsewhere in the vehicle, creating a broad, omni-directional dispersion of sound.

Main thing is, there is no button for these speakers on the center stack.

THANKS everyone...here is what I know as of this morning:

Top row buttons:
1. Nope
2. Nope, got that
3. Nope, not equipped with that
4. Nope, not equipped with that

Bottom row buttons:
1. EMPTY, check
2. Nope, not equipped
3. Check
4. EMPTY, check

I called Toyota, sat on hold for a long, long time, and the don't know what it is either. I'll try the speaker thing to see if something changes when I toggle it on and off, cause that makes the most sense given what it looks like. I didn't have a chance to take pics last night...but I will!

I don't think I have the "someone is close to your truck, holy crap!" security system, but I'll go hit the button a few times and see what happens. Hopefully it's not the autodestruct sequence initiator.

voodooblue...I'll check with the neighbors on that garage door!

Thanks y'all...i'll go hit buttons until something happens.

It's in the bottom row, 4th position that should be EMPTY, next to the Aux input jack. I just tested the speaker theory...no dice. I also set the alarm and beat on the truck a bit...nothin. The truck also didn't self destruct...so that's good!

It turns off the motion detection for the alarm (inside the truck).

This is what it probably is, assuming that you have the TVIP V5 (RS3200 PLUS) alarm system. Is this where it is (from pg. 15 of the installation instructions):

If so, it is the "Radar Sensor Off Switch."

Arrogant Turd,

What I understood Ben to say is the new speaker technology used in the FJC uses the headliner as part of the speaker. It appears you want to quibble about specifics.

Here is what NXT says on their website link that you posted above:

The NXT-based roof liner loudspeaker system works in tandem with the FJ Cruiser's conventional speakers to create a truly impressive audio performance that fills the cabin with a rich, clear sound.

NXT's fundamental technologies are the Distributed Mode Loudspeaker (DML) and the Audio Full Range loudspeaker (AFR). Common to both technologies is the ability to control and deal with the natural modes of a panel speaker system. DML provides techniques to turn almost any shape/size panel into a loudspeaker, whilst AFR confers specific solutions for circular panels.

It seems to me that Firetruck hit the nail on the head and that you continue to twist his words around to make the point that you are more knowledgable on the FJC minutiae than Ben and the rest of us are.

K9Crazy- I apologize for letting this thread get so off track, I was initially just trying to pass on some interesting information that I thought might be useful to someone.

vegasgolds- I apologize if my characterization of the headliner as a speaker confused you, when it is actually only part of the speaker, instead of the entire speaker unit.

For others, I apologize if my generalization of the term "speaker" has caused any distress. I can not promise to never make such a mistake again, as I am only human. For instance if you have a spark problem with your engine I may recommend that you "replace the spark plug wires", when I actually mean you should replace the spark plug wires and the coil to distributor wire, which comes in the same box as the spark plug wires. Please expect these egregious mistakes from me to continue, and feel no need to reply to them unless you feel that I have substantively confused or misdirected someone.

Ben you ignorant slut,
Why do you insist on referring to them as spark plug wires when they are actually spark plug cables? Any idiot can tell the difference.
