THAT'S IT!!!! Looks just like it! I didn't even know I had that alarm system...i'll have to do some more research!

Thanks so much!

Indeed, that is exactly what this thing is. Apparently I was supposed to get a booklet that covers the system, but didn't. The dealer goofed and will have one in the mail to me today! Thanks for all your help! PROBLEM SOLVED!

What about the little rubber boot things that are attached to the dizzy and, at the other end, the spark plug? Do you just replace the "cable" or "Wire" that runs between them, or do the boots come attached to the cable? Is that something I need to buy sep?

OK well after reading through all the crap in this thread, I'm in the same scenario as the original user that posted this except that the answer was never really defined. Unfortunately I bought my FJ used from a dealer. It only had 8k miles but...no instruction booklets of any kind. I'm fairly certain that the button is to disable the internal motion sensor but does anyone know how? Do I just press it after I turn the vehicle off? How do I know that I've activated it (or turned it off rather) because there are no visible indications that anything has changed? Anyway, if anyone has a .pdf of the alarm system, that would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Don

It is not for the speakers in the headliner. The two speakers in headliner are part of the 9 speaker system that comes with 6cd changers system and my subwoofer. they are slightly behind driver and passenger head positions and if you place your hand on liner you can feel them working all the time. They are only there if you got the Upgrade Package 1 or 2 with FJammer cd system....I have Upgrade 2 with subwoofer and they are there. They are 1/4" thick and up in headliner...new flat panel transducer speaker type....talks about them in owners manual and on Toyota website if not mistaken.

Rear parking assist has waves going from rear bumper to rear....yours is to turn off interior alarm sensor as stated above.

I suggest you contact the dealer and have them send you the appropriate booklet. The button does in fact deactivate the interior motion sensors. I'd guess that as long as you push the button before alarming the vehicle, then it would work. Supposedly there is a light that comes on. I think it is located just below the passenger seatbelt/airbag warning light, on the right side of the center dash panel.

Thanks BMThinker. I just dread calling the dealer because it's always a 45 minute call wandering through people who don't really know anything about the vehicle. Anyway, I'm sure that I've pushed the button several times and not noticed any lights but I'll check where you suggested. Plus, I've never really done a control test of staying in the car after arming and moving around to see what sets it off. I'll do one where I push the button and one where I don't and see if that makes a difference. I really hope there's a light or some indication that the button worked. Anyway, thanks for the post. I've been wandering the Internet for a few weeks now trying to figure out what that button was even for.

You all were right. The light was so far to the right that I didn't notice it. I kept looking in the dash console for some visible signs of life when I pushed the button. Plus, I did the interior control test.

First test: locked myself in the vehicle and waited the 45 seconds for the alarm light to go out. I did NOT push the button. Moved my arms and the alarm went off and scared the skin off of me. Very sensitive indeed.

Second test: Pushed the "sensor off" button, locked myself in the vehicle and waited 45 seconds for the alarm light to go off. Waved my arms around...nothing. I should have tried to unlock the door but I assume the alarm is working properly.

Thanks to all for helping me solve this mystery!

I've been for two weeks now trying to figure this out. I know I know, I should've called the dealer but who wants to do that?!?

Don

the alarm system...turns off motion sensor inside so you can leave your kids or pets locked in the FJ with windows up tight during the Summer when it is 98*F outside...........:(

I called the dealer. Apparently you got the vehicles intended for the Iranian president. That button is for the jammer that he wants to try when we bounce a 500 pounder off his roof. There is a special air bag intended to catch Mk 82s too.

Apparently the parliament ordered them for him so they could convince him to stop wearing tin-foil on his head in public.

It should also work well against police radar/lasers so go for it... Let us know how the test comes out.
