Bad wheel bearing...
Anyone know a shop in either the east valley (Mesa) or north Scottsdale that can press out the bad wheel bearing and press in the new one? I plan on doing this myself since the mechanic wants almost $700.00.
Thanks in advance,

I am assuming that this is a inner wheel bearing? You could try sundevil auto, my friend uses them and has had good luck. If you want to tackle the job your self its really easy. There is a seal that keeps the inner wheel bearing in place, just pull that seal and the next thing behind the seal is the bearing, you dont have to press it out just tilt the hub upside down and the bearing will fall out. Now if you dont have a brass drift and a seal/race installer then removing the race which is what the bearing sits in will be a bit hard and installing a new one will be even harder.
PM me if you are wanting to barrow the tools because I have them and am in South Scottsdale and wouldnt mind helping a felow muder out.

Thanks packetstormin, this is the first time ever tackling a job like this, but now I'm a bit confused...I thought the bearing was pressed into the hub and I'm really confused on what a "race" is or does. This is starting to sound like a major job that the pro's should be doing $$$.

As he said it really is pretty easy it just takes the right tools and a bit of information. If you are even a little handy it shouldn't be a problem. $.02

I thought FJs used unit bearings, not tapered bearings?

I have no idea, I was just assuming that packetstormin had done it before. If they are a unit bearing then it should be easier to change out. Definately something to find out though before you start tearing it apart. Probably if you go to a parts house, or dealer, they will have a list of what parts are recomended to be replaced.
