07+17' Big Tex+VW BUS

I have been impresssed with my 07 cruiser since the day I got it but now you could not get me to EVER want another vehicle.

Some of you are going to give me grief about the following but I did it and she stood tall!

I hauled my 17' trailer from Palmdale CA to Grants Pass OR, picked up a 62 VW BUS went to Albany OR and then to PAsadena CA. roughly 5,000# being towed for 998 miles. I did get electric brakes setup on the cruiser. Heres the results. I did not have the desire to go any faster than 60, if you do, thats up to you, better safe than sorry for me. On the flatter areas she held 1600-1700 rpms and 60 no problem. I always started in "3" and did not plan a Nascar takeoff. Climbing the passes, I did not expect anymore than 40 mph at 2200-2500 rpm and did not want to push her any harder than that. WHen descending the passes I also did not want to make up the time I lost climbing, no faster than 50 and she performed flawlessly.

As we all know the MPG on the cruiser is awful and I was aware of this at the start so heres the numbers and you can believe it or not but I documented each stop ( 7) with the miles between each. I got 10 mpg towing the trailer alone to Grants Pass and exactly the same with the VW bus on the trailer!! I did use the A/C when not climbing she never even came close to overheating.

Must clarify before the replies start coming, I always stopped at as close to 1/4 tank as I could did not know the distance between gas stations and did not want to chance it.

MY CONCLUSION: Toyota rocks, the FJ wheels, rides and now tows better than I would have ever thought. I would do this again without any hesitation.

Is your truck stick or auto? I'm assuming auto because you mentioned starting off in "3". Only thing I'd suggest would be to not tow anything in overdrive (if you want the trans to last)... even on flat pavement.

Towing in "4" will tach about 2500 at 65mph and keep the trans happy.
