I wouldn't pay the extra 100 bucks for the powder coating. If it's got a

"Powder coat finish may scratch or chip during shipping"

warning about being in a cardboard box, it's not going to last long in the real world.

I say paint it yourself.

After many requests, we began offering the powder coat finish for those who did not want to go through the process of doing it themselves. Painting them is the best option for those who plan to do heavy off-roading because it is so easy to cover any scratches or scuffs. Not all will be wheeling off-road and they usually want the powder coat finish. We use a reputable local powder coater for this and have had no damage to the finish due to shipping. The finish is durable but not indestructible. I have read customer horror stories on other forums about sliders from other vendors showing up at their door in an oversized box allowing the sliders to move freely, breaking the ends of the box, and eventually damaging the finish. We take great care packaging our sliders individually in bubble wrap and shrink wrap as well as tightly wrapping each set in double walled corrugated cardboard. "Powder coat finish may scratch or chip during shipping" is not meant to discourage anyone from purchasing that option only to make them aware of the possibility since destinations are as far as 3000 miles from our facility and many package handlers in between. We take great pride in our products and strive to keep our customers satisfied.

Thank you,

John

I understood you were just covering your a** but it looks bad the way it's worded. You are almost too honest, everyone knows things can happen during shipping.

I would advise changing that note to "see disclaimer" and add something to the disclaimer similar to your above post and tell the customer to notify the shipping company if there is any damage to the finish when received.

The scoreboard company I used to work for has the following on there website.

DAMAGES/CLAIMS
Be sure to inspect your merchandise. All shipments must be inspected at time of delivery for shortages and damages. Notations of any shortage or damage to the merchandise or packing must be made on the delivery receipt before signing. Concealed damage not visible at time of delivery must be reported to carrier within 5 days after delivery. All claims for damage or shortage must be filed within 30 days directly with carrier that made the delivery.

P.S. Your sliders look very good, appear solidly made and reasonably priced. They would be at the top of my list if I had the funds to buy some.

Those look pretty stout and not very expensive either. Good find.

White Knuckle Sliders are reviewed in the next issue of 4 Wheel Drive Toyota Owner Magazine

4WD Toyota Owner Magazine: Tacoma/Land Cruiser/4Runner/FJ Cruiser/Tundra/Everything Off-Road Toyota!

On one of our FJ40 project vehicles as well as an FJC project vehicle.

Without giving too much away they are awesome!

I had a chance to really examine my stock FJC sliders side by side with the White Knuckles during installation and I can say a few things definitively: The are much stronger, better built, better looking and my favorite part...lighter! (mine aren't the HD's, but you can run the HD's without a weight penalty over the stock rails). Besides the expected underbody protection, I also like that they stick out slightly more than the stockers so I can step on them, and they protect the side of my vehicle better when I'm driving in narrow creekbeds and between taller rocks that might want to reach out and touch my body panels. I find myself taking on slightly more aggressive trails knowing that these "rails" will do their job before I do a job on my paint. They are as strong as anything out there, but in my opinion, they have a little more "style" to their design than the others. Definitely recommended. Happy wheelin'!

A little hard to tell from some of these pictures. Do these angle up fairly good from the side of the fj? I know the trail gears are straight out, and the all-pro, demello angle up. Curious what group these white knuckle fall into.

They angle up slightly.

I don't have the specs on the Demello sliders but the White Knuckle sliders run at 25 degrees for the FJ40 and 15 degrees for the FJC.

Darby is right on the money 15 degrees. An angle greater than that in relation to the outer rub rail will begin to be a problem for the cab doors ability to clear the slider.

Very nice sliders... I've been looking into these. How much "stronger" are the Heavy Duty sliders compared to the Medium Duty sliders? I'm curious to see how much more one design will deflect compared to the other. Is there noticeably less deflection on the HD version when lifting up the side of the truck with a hi-lift?

How about a group buy on these?

Thank you for the compliment. The Heavy Duty sliders main rail and legs are made of steel that is 50% thicker than the Standard Duty sliders making them about 50% stronger and allowing little to no deflection.

If you are interested in a group buy please email me.

Thank you,
John

The White Knuckle Off Road sliders (heavy duty version) arrived the other day. The sliders were very well packaged and included the bolts, washers, parking brake cable relocation brackets, instructions, as well as stickers. At 110 pounds, the UPS man made a comment about the package being the heaviest of the day. =)

If I had to do it all over again, I'd get the same sliders, except I'd pay john to have his powder coater guy bead blast the sliders to cut out a bunch of manual labor in prepping them for the paint job.

Pics as promised:

Upon opening the box:

Nice welds were staring right at me:

Plastic wrap removed:

Few coats of Duplicolor self etching primer after a thorough cleaning with a wire brush, coarse scotch-brite pad, and a wipe down with acetone:

Another view of the primer coat:

Few coats of VHT Rollbar and Chassis Epoxy paint in semi-gloss black:

Bolted up!

Sure, one could go that route if they chose to do so... but I wouldn't suggest someone with little welding/fabrication experience to take on a project like this... unless they have a ton of free time, the equipment, the shop space, and a bunch of extra steel to practice with, with a high likelihood of the finished product looking like it was made in the backyard as well and having questionable durability.

Personally, I'd much rather trust someone that welds/fabs on a regular basis and just buy a proven, well designed product.

Welding/fabrication is an art. Time is money and I have no problem forking out a few bucks for a good product.

Keep up the good work John!

The rock sliders look great, first I've seen from them. Nice kickout, angled and mounted heavy duty with double the mounting brackets.

Well it looks like I will be ordering the heavy version and I will just have them powder coated because I'm lazy. I really like the look and fit of these.

If I didn't already have the allpro's I would definitely get these. I had a set of sliders without the kickouts.........I wouldn't run a set without a kickout now.
