Look at Expedition One. We have them and they protect well and are stronger than any part on the FJ. They stick out enough to step on but not too far. You can see them some on this link on ours. But go to the company web site also.

depends on what you are willing to spend...when you get into the type of slider the norm is .120 wall tubing...this will handle a lot of stress but if you are into rock crawling you can pinch or bend em, there are a few companies that offer them in .180 wall, like bud built...you are looking at spending a little more money on em, but they will be almost indestructable. Just remember the farther they stick out the wider your FJ will be.

I have the ARBs. I do not know the tube wall thickness, but I haven't bent them, yet. As much as they weigh, it should be pretty thick.
Get "rock rails" instead of step sliders. The farther out they stick, the easier to bend or get caught on obstacles.

That'll be 2¢, thank you.

I have Demello Offroad sliders and they have saved me many times. Scratched the powder coat on them but otherwise they are un-damaged by abuse. Strong enough to jack up one whole side of the truck with them too. Not the lightest sliders out there, but among the best IMO.

I ended-up buying the stock Toyota sliders. They were too cheap not to get ($180), but they really don't offer much protection from sliding sideways into a tree or rock. They have provided some protection underneath, but I certainly don't think they can compete with the other companies making sliders. I don't do much hardcore offroading so I think they will serve my needs.

I have run the Allpro sliders for 2 years now and they have saved me from my driving habits. I do pull them off to rattle can twice a year

running the Metal Tech sliders with rub rails. here are pictures and video of the install

BTW: The rub rails have saved my rig on a tight spot were I slide down off a slimy wet root and banged the rails into a tree on the other side. no damage... except a little tree sap removal. Worked like they were supposed to.

I love my Demello Offroad Hybrid sliders. They have saved me countless times out on the trail. They take abuse really well and have not had any issues other than some scuffed powder coating from normal abuse. There have been many times where I have had the entire weight of my rig on one rock slider and they have never bent yet. They don't stick out too far to catch rocks like some other brands. They are also sturdy enough to use as jack points without worrying about bending into the bottom door like some other brands I have seen on the trail.

I'm running stock and slider turns and large obstacles are a bit hairy at times. I'd choose a slider that sticks out farther than the stock rails do.

I have the ex one slider with the two steps and love them. I would not have picked powder coat had I known how it chips.

MT here. Had mine for a little more than a year and they have seen many rocks (Katemcy twice, plus Tellico and others).

I built my own and they are similar to the Trail Gear sliders. Due to caving in both rear suicide doors in the last several months I will be building a set with kick outs similar to Bud Built and Allpro for my rig and bringing them back farther than the sliders I have now. I am hoping this will save me some future body damage, I am tired of doing body work!

My ex Ones have kick outs too. Regardless of what you get the kick outs are a must in my opinion. They have saved my rig countless times and I love how the rig behaves when you hit a corner tight and the kick outs do their thing.

Our FJC has Metal Tech sliders with rub rails. They are strong and the guys at Metal Tech are very friendly. I'd totally recommend them.

I would say go with something that sticks out at least as far as those sweet BudBuilts!! Those are pretty nice!

I have the Trail Gear rock sliders and I hvae not had any issues with them. Bolted right on easy and have definatly held the weight of the vehicle on a rock. Can't beat them for the price.

Once you've built a set of sliders for an 80 the sliders for a FJC are easy.

Built the wifes in an afternoon. Kick outs are a must in the muddy midwest.

I like my Man-A-Fre sliders allot. Only con I find with them is that they are heavy, 85lbs each.
