well the K&N will actually hurt you...AFE makes the TRD CAI, there is also injen CAI's each company says theirs will increase MPG and horse power, if anything i would go AFE or TRD since its essentailly the same...injen's numbers they propose are amazing but if you look at the set up it wraps the filter around behind the engine next to the firewall...i dont see how you will get any could air back there

We have the TRD CAI and it adds high end HP but no notice of any MPG increase. Best advice from me is keep the commute to 55 MPH or lower, the MPG drops off like a rock over a cliff at 65 and above. Clean the roof off of racks, lights, boxes etc. Not much else I can come up with.

TRD CAI, TRD CAT BACK EXHAUST, AUTO, Stock TRD
80 mile round trip commute at 45mph - 70mph with stop and go Baltimore Washington traffic. Most tanks are at 20MPG. Range is 18 -21mpg.
Big tires, extra weight, lights and such on roof rack (aerodynamic issues), and 6 speed all wheel drive really take a toll on MPG.
TRD CAI is really great, hooks up like factory install. It adds incremental MPG's and performance.
I have had K&N on another truck, and it was not a "made for that engine" install even though it was the correct model. I experienced lots of quality issues over time, cracking plastic intakes and poor fit with the K&N.
TRD exhaust sounds great and looks good and it also adds incremental MPG's and performance.
Add the above options, keep the vehicle lite, don't carry 100#'s of stuff around in the back and go easy with the fast starts and hard stops all you'll get as good as you can get in the MPG department..........gm

Yes you can see on the list below what is on our FJ and we pretty much did all we can to lower gas mileage We top the scales at 5100 pounds. We gave up on saving mileage and just put a 12 gallon gas tank on the roof rack when we go out on the trail !
