Check with dealer or tech manual to be sure but I've been told, and my research supports this, that there is no drain plug for the transmission. The FJC comes with a "lifetime fluid" and is not designed to be changed. in order to replace the fluid it must be done with one of those high speed low drag machines that hook up via the lines and replaces a portion (I've heard approximately one third) of the fluid at temp and presure. As for the T-case...no splash, no idea over.

Knoll is right. Curious... Why would you want to change the transimission oil?

AT or MT?
They are separate plugs in either case.
The AT has a special filling procedure and requires special ATF.

mmmmmmmmmm...............shitty picture but that is definitely a drain and fill plug
Edit: looks like it might be under the pan, but is still a drain plug.

Wow, now I'd recomend calling the dealer or other authorized service center prior to trying to use that "plug"...

Just saying
So what's the low down? You can't use it to drain fluid?
Is this false advertising?

From what my local dealer said it is a "lifetime fluid" so shouldn't need changing. That being said they also told me that they can "service it" which is what they do now adays with these new fangled trany's (not the dress up kind but the mechanical kind). Just a fancy way of saying changing the fluid, well at least about thirty percent of it, that way they can charge a fortune to hook it up to a special machine and charge us a fortune. The kicker is that there isn't a dip stick any more so there is no way to check the fluid level or fill it...and it needs to be filled at tempurature to avoid blowing out any gaskets or causing other damage...

It's not a lifetime fluid, it's got a 100K change recommendation from Toyota, 50K would be more prudent if you go off roading or tow.
Pulling the plug will drain some of the fluid out but not all. Most all who have it changed have the dealer change it.

"Lifetime fluid" my ass, kinda like the parts jackass at the dealership that told me the fuel filter never needs replacing on a 22RE
Anyone have the FSM? The ad makes it sound like you can drain and fill to the plug level, wait, that's exactly what it says, anyone have the FSM and what it says?

Look man I don't work for Toyota, nor do I claim to be a service tech. I just know what they have passed to me and am trying to answer a question to the best of my knowledge. I have warenty thru 100,000 miles and if anything i've been told by my dealer results in failure I'll be damn sure to get it fixed without cost to me. If the FSM says different great but if my service writer told me otherwise I'm going with his word since it's his buck not mine.

Whoa whoa, I wasn't attacking you or anything, I'm saying someone has got to have the book, therefore the answer Toyota wants to give "techs"

I think that's all just electrical, but if anyone does have the whole FSM that would be sweet!!!!!! I'd even pay for that, just not the five bills the dealer wants.

I think you are all talking about the Auto.... What about the Manual? Isn't that a whole other story?
The manual I thought was supposed to be flushed every 30K for heavy use (like off-roading) or at least that's what I got from reading the service records booklet.

Page 16 the two plugs with gaskets looks like drivers side.
The Transfer will have it's own drain and fill plug I'm sure, didn't find a picture. It should be easy once you get under there, it's no more complicated then the diffs.

To drain your tranny all the way, it would take a machine (dealer). But you can drain most of it. I've done it once with the pages from the repair manual in front of me.
There is a typical drain plug (bolt)on the driver's side of the pan, and the other is a flat hex key design. This is the overflow.
Drain the tranny. I let mine drain overnight. Replace the plug and fill with fluid. The filler hole bolt is a 19mm on the passenger side about half way up. Start the vehicle and cycle through the gears slowly ( about 10 sec, each), then with vehicle running, remove the overflow plug. Fluid should just trickle out. If it doesn't, replace the overflow. Stop vehicle and add about 2 cups of fluid. Repeat as above until it trickles out. Check level after 500 miles.
Fun huh?
