Pushed a little too hard.

@ Morris Mountain over the weekend where I apparently punched a hole in the oil pan. I don't have pictures of my rig on the spot. It slid off a rock and hit hard on the front diff support. I'll get a picture of the hole posted tonight. It did not go all the way through, but there is a oval shaped crack clearly visible on the pan.

Took us 10 minutes on a rock pile to hole our factory skid plate, (missed the vital stuff). Now we have 4+ Skid plates in front and All Pro in the rear and no worries. Makes you just wonder why they even bother witht ehstock plates for the factory. Really not much more than a snow / mud guard.

Look for the climb to the right of Hornet's Nest. I forget the name of it. The easy line is left then right around the rocks. The hard line (that the TT was leading us through) is up and over the bedrock sticking up out of the ground like rounded off teeth.

I don't have any pictures that do it justice. In this shot the Taco is on the hard line.

Just the luck of the draw I guess. So now I'll buy some JB Weld.

If JB doesn't do the trick I'll have a party at my place and get some hands on pulling the engine.

Any one want to help?

That's the one. I won't blame Woody, I'll blame my hard a** tires for slipping off the rock.

Has anybody racked up any significant offroad miles using the rasta skids?

I've been hesitant to add heavy things to my rig to keep it as nimble as possible and not overstrain anything (my 240#'s of lard ass is enough)!!

I'm afraid a good sized dent in these would be hard to bang back out without cracking...

Seems like a number of folks are running them on the blue forum. One member in particular, AthenaCelest has a lot of off road miles in Moab and CO on here rastas. I think they are holding up quite well.

yeah, Athena has wheeled the shit out of her Rasta skids....yep they are scratched with some deep ones...but they have not cracked or allowed punch throughs on some fairly significant rocks including dropping down off ledges onto sharp rocks. So far so good...if you go to blue forum just search for RASTA SKIDS.......

The argument was which is better...budbuilt or rasta...when both have different audience. hardcore thrasher guys say budbuilt and nothing else...those worried about weight say the rasta are good for 90% of what most people will ever see on trail. Athena on other hand has wheeled her in the other 10% with great success so far.....so appears Rasta has beat the bad rap of aluminum skids....
next great test are the high density plastic skids that CaptRick has devised and been testing all over the place on rocks, mud, etc.... So soon there will be yet another option....

Posted this on the blue forum last night. Stay tuned

JB Weld applied. It was hard to reach even after dropping the diff. I didn't take the diff all the way out.

Detached the drive shaft.

Detached the rear mount to allow a little more movement.

Also took loose the vacuum line, breather lines and electrical connection.
So here it is. The first two pictures it is hard to make out.

After cleaning and sanding the area.

that does look like a one in a hundred chance of hitting that area. it's so far up there! Looks like the JB weld might work for you. maybe put a patch of metal or heating duct tape (metal type) over the area? not sure how you would affix it though.
