12v x 120v inverter

both my son and i have RC trucks and boats, and i want to instal an inverter in my new truck for re-charging the batteries. All the ones i see are self contained ones, with wires to the battery, and outlets right on the unit.
I would like to mount the unit under the front passenger seat, but have the outlets in the rear cargo area.
does anyone know of an inverter with remote outlets, or do i have to rig up something ( I am capable of doing THAT, but wonder if i can find one like i want)
thanks

Depending on how much you wont to spend you can get them. Most of the less exspencive ones do not have that option but once you start to spend some $ you can get what you wont... Boats have been using them for years and the marine stores will have a much better selection. hope this helps

You can run an extension under the flororing, from the AC outlet of the inverter to an outlet in the back. However I would prefer to limit chassis wires carrying 120v, I'd rather extend the 12v wiring and have the inverter near where the AC will be used.
I have a 850w inverter mounted under my seat in my 80, and use a conventional extension cord if needed.

Did you have to remove the OEM alarm CPU to fit the inverter?

There is enough play in the harness, that I just moved it over a few inches and resecured it.

I know it's probably simple but do you have pics?

I didn't take any, I should have though ! I removed the drivers seat (4 bolts, unclip the wire harness, easy) and then had access to the alarm ECU. The alarm is held in place by a zip tie that makes a loop through two holes in the capet and back to the alarm on one side. On the other side of the alarm it is simply held in place by a tab from the alarm going under a slot cut in the carpet. In other words the alarm ECU is only secured to the carpet, it is not hard mounted to anything. So you only have to find a spot where it will fit while still giving you room for the inverter, and then make the proper slots in the carpet.

I placed the alarm and inverter where I thought would be the best, and then placed the seat over them and cycled it back and forth to make sure I had clearance, pulled the seat off again and finished mounting everything. I just used two sheet metal screws to secure the inverter.
