hold in odo after going thru trip a and trip b
while holding it in sut of eng and turn back on, still holding the tab in'
it will count down to oooooo
then the light will go off.

Apparently you havent what some other makes' vehicles require to shut the light off.

I've never owned a new car, not really close. One that is 5 yo is the newest thing I think I'll likely ever see or have.

Agreed, It just happens to be the newest thing I've ever owned , the rest are of 13 and 20+ years plus
