I am looking at buying a new SUV this weekend for th ewife and was looking for some insight. We are trading in a 6 year old Mercury Mountaineer that has been great but get s lousy gas mileage. We are not looking for offroad use, just highway use hauling groceries and trips.

Because of the huge incentives at Saturn, we have narrowed it down to the Vue or possibly a Hyundai Santa Fe. The Vue will have all the options along with the fast V6.

The Santa Fe will have all options except for leather. They both get the same gas mileage, but the Vue is much quicker, and a little smaller as well. However the Hyundai has a phenomenal warranty. The Santa Fe is also about $1500 cheaper but the payments will be higher as the car will be financed at 0% over 60 months as opposed to 0% over 72 months with the Saturn.

What do you think?

The Jeep Lower Forty Concept has been bumming around for a while now, but that doesn't stop it from being any less impressive in the flesh, er, sheet metal. The name comes from the mammoth 40-inch tires with which this modified Jeep Wrangler is equipped — good for overcoming fallen trees, boulders and most livestock. Mopar Underground fitted this wild creation with hard-core off-roading equipment such as a Dana 44 front axle and Dana 60 rear, a beefy roll cage and a huge 5.7-liter V8 engine. A 6-speed manual transmission puts power to those epic tires.

All Porsches throughout the documentary except for one guy who drives out of his garage in a nice FJ40 on his way to rock climbing. Thought it was interesting that a 40 would make it in a P commercial! Says a lot!
If I decide to take the gutter off and replace it with a new gutter how much should a shop charge to replace the gutter(provided by me) install the gutter and repaint everything?
What is the factory color? I have a dune beige and was thinking off white may look the best.

I can't say enough about how much we owe Gehn for his great work on our web site and the on-line store. He's taken us a looong way. Thanks Gehn... and stay safe!

So, now we are looking for someone in the club that has some skills and desire that would like to help out with managing the site for us.

You can respond on this thread or PM one of the officers if you are interested in learning more.

Does anyone have an HAC Valve laying around from a desmog they would like to part with that works. Mine works but was changing out my vacuum lines and got to last two lines and one of the nipples popped off of the HAC.

It is one of the air inlet lines not an actual vacuum so going to super glue, seal with silicone and then see if that works in meantime...hopefully it wont affect performance much since I am at sea level. It is a discontinued part so none of the dealerships have them so hoping one of you guys that did engine swap or desmog has your old parts still.

PM me if you do with cost and shipping so I can get it in mail to me tomorrow...thanks a bunch.

if not I might be getting a Trollhole carb and desmog the whole damn thing....shame to waste all this brand new pretty blue vacuum line though. LOL

My wife and I just found out last night that her father has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. That is basically throat cancer. He is fairly young at 57 and has been fighting acid reflux for most of his life. Since so many people with what they call "Barrett's Esophagus" end up with cancer he has been taking medicine for over 7 years and receives monthly and yearly checkups to make sure that it never turned to cancer.

We just found out the news, but we are fairly certain he will have to have major surgury in order to rid and prevent any future spread. If anyone in the community has any advice or first hand experience with this, I would appreciate any help you can offer.

You prayers are welcome and greatly appreciated.

I was referred to this forum from the "regular forums"...hope this is the right place. I realize many of you work on your own cruisers (I'll do small stuff) but honestly, I don't have the time, tools, or garage space to do "big" stuff. So, does anyone know of a mechanic (individual or shop) that works on cruisers remotely near Charlotte, NC? I just want to know I have some place to take my 76' FJ40 if I need to. I've had her since I was 16 (now 31). Any suggestions who be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Need recommendation for replacment of a hot water heater

My hot water heater leaked recently (last day or so) around the temp/pressure relief valve. There is about 0.25 to 0.5 inches of water in the catch pan. You can see where dirty water ran down from the temp/press relief valve to the pan. Heater is about 15 years old so it might be time for a replacement. The tank is not currently leaking. I'm going to turn the temp down a bit to try and cull the pressure a little.

I'm going to stop by Lowes and price some models this afternoon.

Do any UC'rs know how to replace a hot water heater and would be able to lend a hand in the next week or so? From what I've read and from what I understand about hot water heaters it is not a complicated job, but I've never done one before so would prefer some oversight.
