I want to do something a little different this year. I'm bored with the Gap. This year we're going...

I want to do something a little different this year. I'm bored with the Gap. This year we're going to run the Rug Road. Here's some pics from our run in July Rug Road

For those interested, we will camp after the run and head back over the Rug Road the next day. For those not interested in camping, you can head out toward Safford and home from there same day. The road is narrow and there are no bailout points. You either go all the way or turn around and find your way back. If we run into any traffic coming the other way, it could be ugly, but we'll figure it out.

I'll get some more info in the next few days on what time and all, but the run will be on Friday January 1st. We will leave from Mammoth Az. It will be a long day, especially if you're not camping. The run is around 5-7 hours if we stop and check stuff out and have fun. Thats just the time the trail will take. from the end of the run to Safford is appx 1-2 hours and wherever your going from there.
What I'm saying is, be prepared for a long day, otherwise stay home.

Decent tires and good driver additude = a must
lift kit = a good idea
armor and lockers = not necessary, but good
lunch and water and snacks for whole day = definitely
overnite camping = all the usual + extra gas would be good to head back the way we came in. Just in case.

Post more later.

NOTE: If you work for Hertz Rental Cars please stop reading here.
First off like most of you I have owned more cars than I can count, out of all those cars only two have been automatics , the FJ80 Short Bus, and a 77 Fiat 131 that ended up eating two flex plates so I swapped in a 5 speed. If you drive a manual all the time then you know about stomping on the brakes thinking it’s the clutch and sending your girlfriend bouncing off the dash when you get in an automatic car. I did one better, this week I’m working Boise Idaho (make sure to say Boy-See or you will get yelled at by the locals). I got an 09 Toyota Corolla for a rental car, this car has a nice gate shifter with a round knob like a manual transmission, not T-handle or button on top to push to shift out of park and reverse. Monday morning I jumped in the car and headed to work. When the car is in drive the shift lever fits in my hand just like a manual would sit in 4th gear. I was heading down the street at 30 when I came to a red light, out of habit I stomped on the brakes thinking it was the clutch and shifted the car into park thinking I was shifting into 1st. The sound from the transmission was a lot like a baseball card in bicycle spokes only a LOT louder, then BANG and the noise was gone. That was the point where the parking pin was ripped out and all was fine again, until I got to work and put the car in park. The new Corolla now has two neutral positions. Good thing it has a parking brake!!:o

Anybody have a set of 16" OEM alloys for a 100 series collecting dust? I'm looking for a set of 5. I have some OEM's that are on my new-to-me 100 series (YES!) but they've been duplicolored dark grey. If that's your thing, your in luck, I'd swap, otherwise I'm looking to pick up a set of the boring old silver ones. I have already posted in the classifieds, just thought I'd see if anyone local had some.

Any way, I have the parts for a birf job, so if anyone in interested in hanging out and/or helping, I'll be doing a birf job next saturday 11/21, in my driveway.

I'm planning on swapping the outers to the opposite sides and I don't plan on changing the bearings. I changed those last time I did the birfs 5 years/50k miles ago.
