Hello, I know this isn't a normal topic but my brothers truck is having some problems and we aren't sure what’s going on with it.
He picked up an 85 extended cab and it had a Chevy 350 with a Turbo 350 tranny. He had the tranny rebuilt about a year and a half a go, the top end on the engine redone about 6 months ago (water leak) and had a Quadra jet carb put on it a while before that. Oh the tranny has a short shift kit on it, I know they are for dragging but I don't know much else about them.

The problem is after it’s started and warms up when its put in gear it tries to die. If given enough gas it stays running but it tries to die.
We've checked spark, fuel, and air. They all seem to be fine. Any thoughts or idea would be great!
Thanks

94 4x4 dlx truck, I have read a ton of posts here.
I am going to install a rear elocker, and figured I might as well re-gear while I am at it.
I was planning on buying an e-locker from a 96+ 4runner w/4:56 gears
and I was planning on getting a 4:56 stock front IFS from a 93-95 since I think that is the only one that will fit my truck correctly.

am I missing anything, or should that work fine on my truck?

Well, I finally got my lower mileage engine in. (3.0 114K a little sludgy I thought maybe because its been sitting) Everything seems to work fine so far. No leaks, fired right up timing was bang on. My problem is the oil pressure light in the dash. When I start up in the morning for the first 5 mins of driving the light goes in and out. As soon as it warms up the light goes out and stay out. When I start it up after sitting at work for 8 hours it might come on for maybe 5 sec. After that it goes out. I kind've regret not changing the oil pump while it was out. Does this sound like the pump or maybe the pressure sensor or loose connection. Oil is full on the dipstick. Thanks.

I am trying to find a little more information on these trucks. I am in the market for a new truck. I want a strong running diesel engine that will allow for an easy veggie oil conversion.

From my understanding these trucks only came with 4 cyl. diesels. I need the most heavy duty set up with a 4 cyl. diesel as I may wish to tow with this truck.

I was thinking a fourth generation with a 1984-1985 - 2.4L (2446 cc) Diesel I4 2L SOHC seems to be the biggest Diesel available. However I am curious which is the biggest "Hilux" I can swap this into?

Ever since I rebuilt my engine it has ran ALOT cooler, now that its winter and I need a heater, Im starting to worry.

I drive about 40 miles a day, 20 one way and 20 back. Its stop and go traffic, but my engine rarely sees 150*.

When it was 100* out side, the engine never ran past 175, even after a hard wheeling session. I prided myself on this.

The thermostat is in and its not stuck (ive checked), ive even replaced it with two other Oriellys brand "Murray".

The heater gets warm so far, but Im afraid it wont be sufficient when I start having to defrost my windshield every morning.

This is against the grain, but how do I make my truck run warmer?

If it idles for about 15 minutes it wont smoke but starts to idle rough. Doesn't seem to effect peformance a whole lot though. It did sit for about 4 year without running(bad fuel pump).

A buddy of mine has a 1993 4WD 4-Runner with 131,000 miles and it is starting to show its age.

The power steering pump is leaking like a sieve. I have PMed CruiserDan for pricing of a replacement.

The 3 preformed hoses between the air filter box and the throttle body are worn and cracked (CDan pricing already requested).

He is complaining about a lack of power when going up a gradual slope. At full throttle, he says that it bogs down and will not go past 40 mph. Around town driving, power is adequate.

I know a thing or two about my Land Cruiser, but am at a loss where to start looking on this vehicle. We plan to start with a tune-up (plugs, wires, cap & rotor) after getting the power steering pump problem solved. I have read on another forum about rebuilding the power steering pump. Anyone have a link to some useful information about the rebuild?

Any recommendations or links appreciated.

Thanks,

Riley
