Abenteuer & Allrad is an offroad show that is over 10yrs old and going strong.
It is a couple of hours outside Frankfurt and I only had 1 day to attend. I have to say that the campsites (5+/-) where worth a day at least. Plus I took a train and walked 2km to get to the shuttle so I was tuckered out by early afternoon.

I am posting from an internet cafe in Rome so trying to make it quick with pics and short captions. Feel free to ask questions and I this is about 1/2 of the pics I have to post :)

You know it is gonna be a great show when rigs like this are cruising around town.

This Suzuki was near the shuttle pickup and an interesting custom build.

It was great to see how in the campground any and all kinds of rigs & people were hanging out together.

As someone who loves 110 Defenders I was in dreamland, they were everywhere and in every possible configuration.
eurotrip_21.jpg

If you like the big rigs they were in all of the 5+ campgrounds and some were HUGE. The black on was a furry beast with some sort of carpet on the outside. He did have some cool features like powered side steps and a little patio that would slide out also.

The cool little things on many of the campsite rigs caught my eye like the water tank on the roof of this Toyota.
eurotrip_24.jpg

Plenty of old school classic rigs with more custom touches.
eurotrip_25.jpg

From the files of "you can't buy that in the USA", a diesel 4wd van.
eurotrip_26.jpg

Slide in camper means you can still use the truck as a truck when needed.
eurotrip_27.jpg

Trans-World III, and looking at it up close I believed them, this rig looked like it had traveled quite a bit, but no owner to chat with.
eurotrip_28.jpg

This one was for sale but no price, you know how it goes, if you have to ask it is too much.
eurotrip_30.jpg

Big, litttle, medium, there was everything you could think of in the parking area and the campgrounds.
eurotrip_31.jpg

If only the rigs could tell their story I bet you would hear some crazy stuff.
eurotrip_32.jpg

And all that was just in 1 of 5+ campgrounds and parking areas. I could have spent the day checking all those out but I knew I needed to get to the actual event sooner or later!

From the "you always want what you can't have files" place got plenty of traffic as folks looked over the rigs. There was also an H3 test drive track setup.
eurotrip_33.jpg

No one would say you were a mall crawler in this G-wagen but the country club valet might really dig it :)
eurotrip_34.jpg

Quite a few companies had really cool storage or camping setups. I grabbed tons of brochures but I am shipping them home as it is toooo much wgt to backpack around.
eurotrip_35.jpg

Not your typical VW but mighty impressive. There were quite a few builds on the 4wd VW platform.
eurotrip_36.jpg

Ok so many of us have made fun of the Chrysler/Fiat merger but it will be pretty cool if we can get these.
eurotrip_37.jpg

The quality of interior setups was very impressive. Not like the cheap RV stuff you see in the states. But I really started to notice that almost everything was setup for 2 people only...driving seats, cabins, all of it.....what about a family of 4?
eurotrip_38.jpg

Guess what? It's a 4wd Hi-Ace Toyota diesel van and NO you can't buy it in the USA.
eurotrip_39.jpg

Some of the setups were just over the top. Of course when you own a monster rig like these you need some creative solutions to motocycle storage :)
eurotrip_40.jpg

Lada, Lada, Lada, I have seen these all over Cuba, Central & South America but never tricked out like these guys have them.
eurotrip_41.jpg

Another cool custom touch to warm the water and give a gravity feed shower.
eurotrip_42.jpg

This company Nomad had some nice tents with plenty of room to play in if it rains.
This is the 2-3 person model, the bigger ones I could live in!
eurotrip_43.jpg

You know you own a monster when you can have a pavillion off the side of it. I know people take these around the world but I can't image one in some of the small narrow villages I have been through.
eurotrip_44.jpg

It was cool to see 4 Wheel Campers on site and getting lots of attention.
eurotrip_45.jpg

This is a Citroen and yes it is 4wd but I could find anyone to get much info from.
eurotrip_46.jpg

There were a few FJ Cruisers on site in various styles of builds.
eurotrip_48.jpg

eurotrip_49.jpg

I really like some of the practial solutions people tried to come up with. Of course I would break this water outlet off in no time but for others it might work.
eurotrip_50.jpg

It took me a minute to realize what was odd about this rig...then I realized that the Autohome roof top tent looked tiny up there. This was more of a support rig for rallys/raids so they still needed somewhere to sleep.
eurotrip_51.jpg

So have you been itching to do something creative with your 60 series? I knew the Aussie's were doing this quite a bit but I had never seen one in person.
eurotrip_52.jpg

Need somewhere low to store your water and help the center of gravity, hey why no use that front bumper? Pretty cool and plumbed to the engine for heating.
eurotrip_53.jpg

I liked that many people went for function over form in the practical sense. I noticed many people were using these tie down strips to mount all kinds of stuff to the outside of rigs.
eurotrip_54.jpg

This thing was just cool...and they are making them for a variety of rigs as a bolt on application. You just order your truck without a bed and they ship you this setup.
eurotrip_55.jpg

When I have a better net connection I will upload more pics and tell more fun stories about the stuff I saw.

Ha, this thread is ironically timely to a post I just made in the US diesel tread.

This smaller rig looks like a lot of fun, maybe like you said a tad too small, would have been nice to be a little bigger for a small family :hhmm: :hhmm: :hhmm:

Awesome stuff.... makes you dream and want to start building.... i keep thinking my rig is done.... and then you see more and more great rigs.. Thanks for the pics.

Some great pics and great ideas;)

Very cool pictures. Thanks for posting them up.

From the files of "you can't buy that in the USA",

I think pretty much the whole post fits that category :crybaby:

Great looking rigs, nice to see what is out there..

Oh Sweet Jesus,

Excuse me for a few minutes guys, I just gotta go somewhere quiet with some tissue paper.

I won't be long.........

OK - ONLY JOKING, HONEST!

All of those pics have something - even the little rigs - I don't like that external storage stuff though - seeing as I just ripped my flares off on a trail.

Keep posting the pics - great ideas for me to tackle

Thanks for sharing.

How is Rome, by the way? Still lovely?

I'm glad you mentioned wondering how some of these rigs work on narrow roads- I was thinking the same thing. I guess the larger ones are intended for more wide open places like Africa or Iceland.

The euro market must spend some serious money of toys-then again they still have pensions over there so they don't have to worry about their retirements as much-but I digress........

I don´t know who is buying these trucks....
We have seldom met them on tour.
And they would have difficulties to reach the areas we like to exoplore anyways because of theire seize and weight.

You know these big sailingboats, always moored in the marina ;)

here you can find some more pics:

 WOW

I'm in sensory overload from the pix, I can't even imagine what it musta been like in person.

like they said, thanks for the pix, and more when you can...

Hey 1leglance! Those are some great and interesting rigs! Thanks for posting them, knowing we'd appreciate them! I've got some great ideas for my buildup now!

Awesome thread.....

Kinda nice to know folks are making these items for the 4wd folks.... now to get them in the US:hhmm::idea:
