OKA

OKA is an Australian 4wd truck manufacturer that makes these . They originally were fitted with a woefully underpowered 4cyl Perkins with 90 HP.
THe diffs are Dana ,60 rear 50 front I think. T/case is from Spicer, not sure about the gearbox.
The new model is supposed to have the bugs sorted out new comes with a Cummins diesel of about 185hp but you can still specify your own if you wish, they are designed that way.
As with all the components ,the springs are off the shelf items that fit other vehicles.
The windows and doors are all flat.
The idea is that it cAn be repaired easily anyhwere in the world.

Theyve had some ups and down with finance and bringing a truck into a market on limited funds.
Some hate them others dont ,Im one of the latter
You can get them in various configurations ,such as a truck or a fully covered bus body.
They weigh about 4000kg. I followed one on the highway once and he maintained a steady 90-100klms with a load on.
This is one of the local trucks i saw pictured on Perth 4wd forum. Owners in oz identify their truck by its build number from 1-350

A guy is rebuilding an OKA up the road. I always drool when I drive past.

His is either this particular one or one very similar. He has added a full bus back to it and a pop top. It still has the red and yellow stripes paint job on the front.

That is an awesome truck too.

The pic in the first link of the OKA flexing it in the septic tank is funny and

The second link wouldn't let me access the page unless I was logged in.

Hi Mick. Only problem is the price has crept up since their intro and is now nudging $200K for a fully optioned bus or $120k for the base model.
Nice to dream about it though, I think these would be really great cruising the through the desert with the LWB .
Some of them are clocking up 1 million klms
Thanks for the sue and ruedi link. I meant to follow theirtrip after reading the build up and forgot about it.
I wonder how one of these would go with a 12HT or 1HD T?
I cant change the PDF file to one I can show on the net. If you PM me your email I can manage that

Can't access that page either.

I've been keeping my eyes peeled on the secondhand OKA market. Been a few good built ones around the $70-80K mark. Which is what you'd pay for a stock new cruiser.

Aussies really do have the most amazing RV's imaginable. These lumbering Barbie-house behemoths (e.g. Winnebago's and such) we have rolling around on the free-ways here in the States are just embarrassing in comparison.

I love all the room on the dash. Plenty of room for all the gadgets and doo-hickeys.

Yeah and being able to add or replace the gauges/switches with standard size aftemarket gear without cutting holes and the 4 seater rear seats.
Damn dash must be nearly 5ft wide
I could see a 30 litre weaco strapped to the engine cover
