Sorry for the cross forum post but this link shows the fate of badly prepared vehicles or inexperienced drivers in the outback.
Damn ,I wish I had of got to the abandoned troopy 1st
From memory ,the Prado and Exploder both caught fire from spinifex grass accumalating around the cat.
At certain times of year the spinifex becomes resinous and highly flammable and can catch fire again after it has been extinguished.

Jeesh that sucks for the owners.

I only wish that the owner are safe and not 3km from thier vehicles with nothing left but sun bleached bones.

Some of them are probably owned by desert aboriginals. Its quite normal for them to walk away from vehicles that only need minor repairs.
When I was at Giles last year there was a cemetary of 9 vehicles ,6 of them were 75 series that had been towed in from the desert close by.
But 400 klms from town there was every kind of car imaginable,even old chevs and a 50s caddy

I know the Exploder was owned by a family on their 1st outback trip in a convoy. It caught fire underneath several times that day.
The last time it went up so quick they were left with the clothes on their back. The wife managed to save the money and her wedding rings.

Most of those tracks have someone come along weekly or so. If you have enough water and stay with the vehicle ,you will almost certainly survive.
It also helps if you tell someone ,preferably the police,of your intended route/destination.

Man that one looked pretty recent. I sure hope nobody's out there desperate while he's scavenging parts off their truck!! I thought it was really funny how he claimed that the roll of tools laid out was "there when he got there". haha
