When I factor my Speedo and Odo I add 7% to compensate for the 33's not exact math but, ball park. That gets me the 13 mpg

got it, I would try to get a better idea. And for you I'd say you do allot of open flat driving (I just noticed AZ). thats where you can get away with a sleepy (low revs) engine, thats why your mpg is so high. Mountain and city guys wont get that. Now it's all in weather or not you need or want the low end power and better towing. All of which are not attributes of an MPG rig. Its hard to say weather or not you'll get MORE mpg, because gears will take off the load (or strain) that the higher RPMs your engine will be turning might take back in MPGs.......hard to say. Depends on what you need out of it. |

You will never get good mileage out of the 3fe. The Monteros are great rigs and would suit your purposes very well. They are not quite as durable as the 80, but the IFS will handle better on the dirt and is cheaper to maintain. For freeway mileage just do the math. If you go 1000 miles in the 80 at 13mpg it will cost you 230 dollars. (assuming $3 per gal) In the montero, the same distance will cost you 150 bucks.
You will save 80 dollars in fuel every thousand miles. I think that should cover any extra parts to repair... The 80 will last longer. It is much stouter, and engineered to go 700k. (that is 161,000 in fuel....) __________________ No problem, I'll just tow the pig to Salt Lake on a UHAUL trailer...... 95 T100, beater edition 01 Sequoia Limited 02 Camry--Poor replacement for an 80 "A vehicle's capabilities are inseparably linked to the mental instability of the driver"

I might but it's not the full bumper. It's just the carrier that bolts onto the OEM bumper. I think the PO said he paid 500.00 for it.

wait, sideways? How could you possibly sleep sideways? Unless you're like 4 feet tall...
Don't your seats fold down?? Yeah if you're worried about mpg and fuel costs... that's why I don't drive the 62 with the gas engine in it anymore... 3fe isn't good for that. |

Can't disagree with the above. Really for weekend adventures and such, the toughness of a landcruiser is not necessary... and the fuel mileage is not desirable.
I still want to know how it is that you can't sleep in your 80? My girlfriend, me, and our cat literally LIVE in our 60... the bed is huge by our standards! We've even slept in the back once without folding down the back seat. |

wrooooong....You do realize that the FZJ was still being produced in Venezuela up til 2007....WITH the 1FZ? And the 100/105 is being used with the 1FZ-FE and not the ALMIGHTY 3FE ![]() Oh and the FZJ7x series...2007 WITH 1FZ-FE and it looks like the power was bumped at some point to 240Hp How long was the 3FE produced??? So NO, the 1FZ was not PHASED out after 5 years...although I"m not sure if it's available on the 2008's but thats 15+ years of basically the same engine. TOyota redsigned that headgasket so I"M guessing all of the models past 97 probably don't have these issues. The V8 was made for more power, lower emissions...NOT because the 1FZ sucked. ![]() I'm not dogging the 3FE, it's a good motor...but I personally wouldn't run it over the 1FZ. Just a bit of truthful info...

![]() ![]() the 70 series were produced starting in 84-85....so yes it probably was an engine that was in the 70 series. So was this 3FE only around for 2ish years? thats a serious question Granted, it's a good engine...but a dog... I think the reason you see 3FE's with low mileage is because they are so slow people haven't been able to drive that many miles in them

Sue you for slander!... ![]() I meant the blocks ![]() Then you can count out your precious CARBED 1fz's too! And I guess if you wheeled in the 200hp range then yes, the 1fz, until then Iron on Iron baby! (the one that shrugs at heat, 300k miles, and gimme a big timing wha? GEARS! )If it had 9:1 compression it would rock! (stock is 8:1:1 )I'll take a camed 2FE with 9:1 over a twin cam aluminum head any day! You got 7 mains though..... ...I loose.test v Last edited by tntoyota; 02-15-08 at 04:14 PM. |

hey, don't be addin' tech into this
![]() Meh...I see one downfall on the 80's...and thats the headgasket that some people have problems with, and others dont so you fix that and then there's no issues...pesky heater hose...cheap fix, not fun...but cheap has anyone ever had a timing chain break on a 1FZ? ![]() I believe there are a few FZJ's past the 300k mark ![]() and since we all WHEEL to work, and WHEEL every day, you're right...what do you need extra HP for? ![]() thats right, the ability to actually merge onto a freeway ramp in under 14 seconds. Or go up a hill that a bus load of dirty hippies in the VW van WON"T pass us ![]() Don't get me wrong...the FZJ's have a lot of exra crap/fluff that's probably not needed...I mean...why toyota went to a more horsepower, full floater rear, 4 wheel disc brakes, Electric lockers front and rear is just BEYOND me ![]() ....again...I'm not bashing the FJ80's...and tech...yes gear it if you are going to run bigger tires...ANY rig is going to feel sluggish when you start adding bigger tires. BOTH FJ80's and FZJ80's start to feel that way when larger tires are added. Gears will help some and put some pep into the feel of the rig. I would adjust that transmission cable, throw some gears and run the living piss out of the rig. For what you are wanting to do, it will do fine. __________________ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 93 FJZ80 Slee 4"/OMEJ, 35's, 4.88's, ARB's, Metal Tech sliders, ARB with M12000, On Board Air, caster plates, DC drive shaft, Pin7, CDL, adjustable rear uppers, A, homemade rear, Slee Skid Plate, extended brakelines, backup camera, Conferr Rack, Hella's, 96 FZJ80 285's OME 's ride
