Maybe look at modding a VW Westfalia top to the cruiser....you can usually find non runners cheap...
Plus, you'd have some additional interior camper parts!

x2. I'd like to see that and it's been discussed before. A search on "Westfalia" should to the trick.

MO-Troopy
I am in the process of making an HJ45 Troopy converted to a NanoCamper. It needs to be simple but suitable for camping in.
Here are my sketches.

you could adapt a flip-pac camper and get something like this
http://bajataco.com/vikingvince/Vince_FlipPac/index.htm
http://www.flippac.com/
It is an easy way to get a lot of room and a comfortable bed and you build the interiror to suit your needs.
No association with flip-pac by the way, just an idea.

Fernando

You gonna add a tag axle or move the rear axle at all? That thing is gonna be awful arse heavy once its all set up for expedition.
Good luck with the search for a good fabricator.
Check out www.expeditionportal.com for some good info for your buildup.

my advice... keep the roof height low or you'll hate yourself when trying to ship it anywhere. By the sound of things you're planning on doing a lot of that. Keep it compact and you can ship it RORO cheap. Also fuel consumption...

Gotta build a roof rack on top of that hinged popup. I think this way you do not have to account for a roof top tent taking up the space in your rack I like the solar panel option too

do a search on mud for vintage off road in the chit chat area. I would not have his shop touch my cruiser or even look at it if I was considering taking it even across state lines. He is a fraud. Have a worthy mechanic check the one you bought please. I am not kidding.

I see it has evolved from the original concept a little
What will go in the canopy on the back and is that a tent over the roof?
In regards to the power steering ,I would post a question on the 40 series forum. The easiest way is to use the power steering a 40/45 series that had it fitted but I imagne they are becoming scarce these days.

the easiest way to do a ps swap o nthe troopie is to source the parts from australia. you'll have to run hj61 components. they normally cost about $1k for the whole setup and are pretty sought after, even down under.
i'm doing a ps conversion on an hj47 right now but we're also swapping it from RHD to LHD.
you could do a ps swap using a sag box from a chevy truck. make sure it's a 4 bolt, 4.25 turn box. you don't want a 3 bolt or 3.5 turn version. it'll mount on the inside of the right frame horn. the ps plates i sell will work. you'll need a collapsible steering shaft and some joints, all of which can be bought from flaming river thru summit racing; they have the best prices and generally have everything in stock. mounting the ps pump may be a little interesting. there is room on the left side of the engine above the head. that's where i'm going to mount my ps pump. the hoses will most likely have to be custom made; most napa staores have the hose crimper and fittings in stock. they normally build custom hoses for $60-80. i would run a ps cooler on the return line also. i have these in stock as well if you need one.

PS: i will be doing another ps swap on a 1984 hj47 for a customer in a few weeks. we'll be using all factory parts from an australian HJ60 series rig. i will take plenty of pics and post a thread about it when the time comes.
where are you located?!

Your build is looking really nice! Is the tent for guests? Will you be installing a winch? This is looking really cool. Would love to see the plans for inside the camper
