not a personal attack ZIMM, but god a hate this train of thought. i hear it all too often. i enjoy working in the garage once in a while, why does it cost me $50 an hour to have fun but your fun is free? i understand the money investment in materials, but not time unless i'm selling what i'm building. to me, i would rather play in my garage than spend even MORE time at work. i figure at this $50 an hour rate for my free time i should stop fishing cause its costing a hell of a lot more than buying fish at the store.
i understand the decision for some to spend good money on parts they cant or dont want to build, but please dont try to justify it by telling the rest of us we are wasting our time doing what we enjoy.

Many different styles and most all very nice.
For my 80, I just whipped up at platform on 6" 1x's just to mount my Norcold.
Planned to put something 'mo better" later.
MY QUESTION: just how tall is everyone?
I find that, at 5'11", my fridge is just a tad too tall on this 6" tall platform plus the fact that I have a 2" lift. I'd like the platform taller for drawers but I see some sets quite tall. Add a fridge slide and mount and now the dang thing is so tall you'd need a stool to see in the fridge.
Does anyone else have this problem and what do you do to mitigate this?
thanks,

I have the AO drawers with the fridge mounted on their slide out in my 100 sitting atop 35" tires and about 3.5" rear lift. At home I use my little 2-step folding stool to load before a trip. On the trail I try to sit the arse end down at the bottom of a little slope or hole so that I can easily get into the fridge. Or worst case I just have to kneel on the DS side of the tailgate and it works too.

But I can't give up the storage drawer underneath the fridge...which is what I would have to do to get the fridge down to an ideal height for me (5'10").

In my case, the Fridge is mounted to the floor on 2nd row passenger side (seat taken out). This allows for easy access for the passenger while driving and the proper height from outside the vehicle through the rear passenger door. Like you, I found the fridge on top of the rear drawer to be PITA; especially for the wife.

I just finished mine today. I left the spacees on the sides open for gear and spare parts. The drawers are as long as the back of the cruiser. I used ball bearing tool box rails for slides. The deck and uprights are 3/4 MDF. It is fastened to the floor with 1/8 angle. I am still waiting for the carpet. Seems heavy duty, with all of my gear and the spare tire it weighs 268 lbs. Only about 55 lbs more than the box I used to have back their.
I put foam padding under all parts that contact the floor. The over center latches keep the drawers from rattleing and take the weight off the rails when closed. Just thought I would put a post and some pictures.

If you dont want to build, try weathershield's pack rat series of roll out drawers. heavier, but weatherproof

I just finished up this box for my 80, cost me about 300 bucks and 30 hours of fun time in the garage. The complete build is here http://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-te...first-mod.html Including pdf drawings I used.

Nice box, you probably could save some weight with 1/2" MDF. My second go around, im looking to see where weight can be saved.

Here is mine.

AO drawers with NL 95L dual fridge and I am a shorty. The 95 L has the same footprint as the 74L but is 10 cm higher so I use my tailgate all the time.I fitted quick release clips to the fridge doors which helps. For the kind of trips we do down here you need a big fridge and batteling for access is a small price to pay.If you swap the fridge and the drawer around(which a buddy of mine did) you have no access to the fridge on the fly, which IMHO is an even bigger evil.In general the AO drawers with their big bearings tend to last the best in our conditions but they are overpriced not unlike most other things down here.

Nothing special, but built some drawers for my FJC. Weighs about ~57 empty, using 1/2" plywood.
