I'm buying it from the same company I bought the turbo from originally so i'd hope the trims were the same...!
thanks! I'll post up my progress....

That stinks. I was looking forward to another TT article from you and JP. I hope you get it back together and going well.

That sux Gehn.
On another not have you thought about installing a few dummy lights for turbo and engine oil pressures?

yeah, even thought about hooking it up to the fuel cut-off so it would automatically shut the engine down. I have also decided to move the bypass filter to after the turbo to minimize any future leaks or failures that would starve the turbo.

Parts should be here next week...a new bearing assy or "CHRA", new gaskets, hardware/manifold studs, and a new air box lid since the one originally sent was damaged in shipment.

If you want to pursue the low oil pressure interlock, see if you can still get the oil pressure switch for a GM Vega's fuel pump. They used to hang on the peg-boards, but when was the last time anyone even saw a Vega?
Anyway, Vega's never had a mechanical fuel pump so the low oil pressure switch was GM's non-computer safety measure. The switch has a third terminal on it for starting. Wire the third terminal to the trigger terminal on the starter solenoid so that the IP will work normally while cranking. I've used them on a couple carb'd engines with electric fuel pumps with great success.

Hmmm, I wonder if NAPA still has them. I'll find out next time I'm in there.

I do not know what the cut-out pressure is, but it is fairly low. So it shouldn't ever cut fuel during extremely hot oil conditions, but it will shut down the engine if you miss the gauge/light's warning.
I'm wondering if it should be on the engine, or on the pressure line to the turbo? Maybe it doesn't matter?

The turbo feed takes pressure from the gauge sender port, so I don't think it will matter.

I am finally back in the states....
The new turbo parts have arrived as well as a new ARB. I am waiting for new oil and filters this week and am hoping to work on it this weekend. I also installed the split rear bench, the locker cables and dual batteries before the Turbo blew up, so I'll post up those updates as well.

Nope, I didn't galv the frame. I just ran out of time and $$, and figured I'd continue with modifications to the frame as I outfit it with skid plates, perhaps on board propane etc. It may be something I go back and do later when I know I'm done welding on the frame.
I rebuilt the turbo and installed the ARB last weekend and so far so good. It runs just a well as it did before it blew up so I am feeling confident about the condition of the engine bearings. Time will tell though....I'll get some pics.

Cool! I had no idea the 60 series cable locker linkage was so different from the 70 series stuff. Mine looks NOTHING like that....more like a standard parking brake. So do those handles of your pivot or do you just pull straight up on them?

Oh, and a bitchin FJ45 that may or may not be for sale.

Nope, the back flips down and then both hinge at the front against the back of the front seats.

I've got about 500 miles on the new new turbo now and it's running better than ever. It seemed a little down on power and I was having some hesitations at high RPM until I realized I forgot to change the fuel filter for the push pump back at the tank. About $5 and 10 minutes later the hesitation is gone and it pulls like a turbo diesel should. I am thinking about upping the boost a little after a few more break-in miles...

Well, I am back in Afghanistan for work so the cruiser has been put to bed for a couple months. I put the snow tires on before I left and tracked down an annoying squeak from an exhaust hanger, so it'll be winter ready when I get home. I'll be back in December for a few weeks, but back out here in January, so it'll probably be a slow winter. On the bright side, I get around Kabul in a armored HZJ105 which helps keep my cruiser withdrawals at bay.
Upcoming plans for the HJ include tuning the boost compensator for some more low end response, which I can probably do while I'm home in December. But a rear recovery bumper with tire swing out, a winch, sliders, some proper lift springs and a new cargo system will likely have to wait until spring. I wish I had heated garage to work in... *sigh*

Sorry, small hi-jack...
I've got a co-worker heading to Afghanistan next week (Kabul) ... He's gonna be there 5 weeks teaching the Afgan kids how to skateboard... Well, at least he'll blend in with the local pop. I told him I want pix of Land Cruisers and he thought I was crazy...

haha, cruisers are definitely the vehicle of choice for internationals. They're everywhere. There are some badass 110's and g-wagons too, but I would love to bring home one of these...

Man, if Toyo would only offer either of those in the U.S. with a turbo Diesel... It'd be the last vehicle I'd own... (maybe that's why they don't sell 'em here!)

The wreckers in Adelaide where your rear split bench seats came from have another set. If you know of anyone who wants it, have them ring Rod and he can ship it. 61 8 8359 4499.
