just bought the Garmin Nuvi 200 what can I do for upgrades
I have a Garmin II and it works great for trails and I still like the feel of real Topos and knowing how to use a ruler. Reading real maps is a good skill to know and using the Garmin along with them is a great way to travel and explore the back roads. But then a friend let me use his Garmin for driving on roads and I fell in love. So during Black Friday, I picked up a Garmin NUVI 200. What downloads and upgrades can I do with this? I would like to add Canada base maps later on. This is a Cristmas gift from the wife so it is wrapped in christmas paper and I cannot touch it until the 24th.
Since I can't do that, I can at least plan on upgrades and downloads. Any suggestions? __________________ 8/73 FJ40, 4" tweaked front flipped extended wheel base SUA, rear SOA, 35 Cooper STT Discoverers, fully locked, 1.5" Marlin wheel spacers, 60 series power steering, just under 100" wheel base, full cage, 60 series ignition, roof rack and custome awning, Syrius sat. radio, and GPS www.centralvalleycrawlers.org forum.ih8mud.com/ca-central-valley-crawlers |

From what I understand the "AUTO" versions of the GPS's you cant really mess with...I am told that some of the upper end ones $5/600 jobs you can do limited things. I also purchased a Garmin 200w the other day....when I asked about the card slot in the side they stated it just for music or photos. Would love to be able to upload my topo into it.....

In2,
You are correct to a certain degree, most will only use the card slot for what you mentioned but you can utilize the slot to load your own maps and POI's. Say you find an awesome trail or just a cool spot of the beaten path, you can save this data as a POI (up to 200 user set ones). You can also share this with others by using the POI loader feature (free off Garmin). Then others can upload your POI and route to it just like any other location. The one thing I have not tried with it is if you can upload your whole route (for use off-road mainly) and therfore track back the same way. Hope this helps. My main concern is that I want to be able to either buy or download Topo maps so I can use the Garmin along side my Mag. III for long/lat readings. Can this be done with teh nuvi 200? I would think that is what the card slot is for?

I am still looking for a resolution to use TOPO maps instead of street maps for a garmin NUVI. Any suggestions would help.
