Dual band Q's

My 80 I just bought has a Kenwood dual band TM-733 hooked up. I am not familiar with dual band radios and would like a quick "for dummies" explanation on what the advantages and disadvantages are over a normal CB. I have used CB's a lot but Don't know Jack about dual bands. Someone please inform me. Also do I have a decent radio or is it worth scrapping for something else.

I have three Kenwood radios and they've not been a lick of trouble. Probably should start with HAM license, or at least get a HAM book so you can learn the basics. Then look up repeater frequencies in your area and listen-in for a while.

It's a real radio, not CB. You must be licensed by the FCC to operate it. Does it also have an included antenna or mount for one? Anyway, that's a nice unexpected perc with your new truck!

Look aroud at the Ham radio threads on this forum to get an idea of what is involved.

Your best bet is to go to http://www.arrl.org/ and look up with a local ham club. They can help you get licensed and teach you how to work the radio. You only need a license to transmit. So while your learning for the test, you can listen.
