best cb antenna
hey guys!
not sure if this tech but im shopping for a new antenna and want to know what is agood antenna. i have a 3ft fiberglass antenna that is fixed to my rack. this weekend i went wheeling and found i could not talk to anyone else out there. come to find out my antenna was broken at the base. i attribute this to it being fiberglass and the fact i hit it pretty good on the trails. it has a spring on it for flexing. i was told the best ones are the one truckers use. im looking at a wilson 5000. i like it because the rod is vary flexible. i dont see anyone running this type of antenna(whip antenna) on there rigs. so really... what is the best antenna? ![]() scott __________________ 96 FZJ80 Not locked but not stock. |

I've heard great things about the Wilsons too, but I've personally always used Firestik antennas.
Check out http://www.walcottcb.com/ for a great selection. |

I say, Firestik, they're an industry standard. I have a 4ft Firestik with the tuneable tip ,spring and ball mount next to gas cap. I'm guessing you using a No-Ground mount on your roof rack. Make sure your mount matches your antenna - No Ground Plane Mount, No Ground Plane Antenna. ;-)

thanks guys. do the firesticks flex alot ar a little? my truck stands 7'6" at the top of my rack. i hit everything on the trails. the repeated shock is breaking my antenna. so would the firestick do the same? i guess i want to mount my antenna and forget about it. i dont want to worry about any low hanging obstacles where ever im at. the whip seems to flex alot. can i mount a wilson 5000 to my little uniden cb radio? are there anennas out there that are too strong for my radio?

Search in electronic toys will find you plenty of discussions on cb antennas. I run a Wilson 5000 mag mount and am very happy with it.
Don't forget to tune any new antenna you get with your CB for optimum results. __________________ Brent '94 White LC; Kaymar Rear Bumper w/tire carrier; Hanna Sliders; ARB winch ready Front Bumper; Slee Transfer Case Skid Plate; Revo 285's, OME 850/863 Heavy 2" lift, INTI Rack; Warn M12000 Winch, Snorkel; Sputnik! I apologize if i am blunt, however CB Radios suck! Having said that, they work ok. for a close range as when we do trail trips, do not expect to call for help 4 miles out and expect for somebody to answer back. So i would just buy an inexpensive anntena that flexes and be done with it, the firestick that i have do not flex at all and i know it will be just a matter of time before i have to replace it. As for the 5000 Wilson, save the money and up grade to Ham when you have a chance, i know I will have a Ham Radio soon, however you still need your CB radio for communications with the people on the trail. Oh! there is no antenna that is too much for your radio!

It is a long range crystal clear signal, I saw it on action over the Baja Peninsula, people that were 55 to 70 miles away could communicate! I will show you the radio once I get my permit, you have acces to weather ,emergency response... So if you are in a very remote area, you may have a better chance of being rescue with a ham on your table!

HAM is great, but its an investment and you still want a CB to talk to the masses that dont use HAM, so why not replace the CB antenna instead of throwing it away as eurorom suggests
![]() firestick is a good antenna but i prefer wilson,,, you can find a skinny fiberglass wilson that will flex real well, the other whip types like the trucker series are real nice too, i run both style depending on where i am. generally the top loaded fiberglass antennas broadcast in a pretty flat trajectory, great for the open areas and in a group,, the trucker series broadcast more like an umbrella, great for hills. i have talked to people as far away as roughly 12 miles and my bro-in-law lives 8 miles away and we talk to each other on the cb often when working on our junk. CB is just fine for trail talk when wheelin, and even if you get HAM you still need cb for most out there. also you dont want to run dual antennas unless you set up your system to run them, besides they are very directional in dual use. alot of truckers run them on they're mirrors because it sets them up for directional ahead and back which is what they want on the hiway. not many folks to talk to on the sides of a rig. __________________ 75 BDJ55- biopig |

best cb antenna
Hallo from italy, some dayg ago i bought an outbacker antenna for many ham band. for cb I think best antenna is the longer antenna you can use. prefer mounting on the center of car. never mind for cable lenght, it is not influent for antenna tuning. if you are curious loot at www.outbackerantennas.com. I think these are the best ham and cb antennas.
